Stefanos Tsitsipas continues what has already been an eventful week for him in Madrid with a second-round clash against Alexander Bublik. The eighth seed has had a mixed start to his clay-court swing and will be eager to extend his opponent’s woes on Saturday. Tsitsipas enjoyed a come-from-behind win over Patrick Kypson in the previous round, ending a three-match losing streak.

Tsitsipas vs Bublik Head-to-Head Record
This will be the third meeting between these two players on the ATP Tour, and it is Tsitsipas who leads the head-to-head record 2-0. Both their previous meetings were in 2020, and Bublik has certainly overtaken Tsitsipas since then.
Bublik enjoyed a strong start to the year, winning the title in Hong Kong and making the fourth round of the Australian Open. He then reached the semifinals in Rotterdam but hasn’t been able to put together a string of strong performances since.

The 28-year-old showcased his quality by making the quarterfinals in Monte-Carlo, where he lost in straight sets to Carlos Alcaraz. Things then got worse for Bublik in Munich, where he was beaten by qualifier Alex Molčan in straight sets. Now down to No. 11 in the ATP Rankings, Bublik will be eager to make his mark in Madrid.
Tsitsipas is going through a turbulent period of his own, tumbling to World No. 80. The former world No. 3 arrived in Madrid having lost his last three matches. But he showed resilience in the first round, defeating Kypson.
The 3-6, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4) win showcased both his grit and his lack of form, as he fired 46 winners and 42 unforced errors.
Tsitsipas vs Bublik Prediction and Pick
Neither player has had much to write home about in recent weeks, with Bublik in slightly better form than Tsitsipas going into this match.
Tsitsipas will take plenty of confidence from his first win on clay in 2026. But Bublik is a much better player, even if he is reeling from a first-round exit of his own.
The experience factor could give Tsitsipas the edge, as he was a finalist in Madrid in 2019 and holds a 74.1% win percentage on clay.
But Tsitsipas looks to be a shadow of his former self. Bublik will hope to use that to his advantage and claim his first win in the head-to-head.
We could be in for a closely contested second-round contest at the Madrid Open, and it could well come down to which player can take control of the big points. The PFSN Tennis Simulator gives Bublik a slight advantage at 52%, and we believe he will end Tsitsipas’ run in Madrid on Saturday.

Pick – Bublik in three sets.
