Carlos Alcaraz is getting closer to completing a career Grand Slam, as he has defeated Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals, advancing to his first Australian Open semifinals, where he is set to face World No. 3 at the Rod Laver Arena. The Spanish star has recently revealed why he is able to excel, as his family and their support play a significant role in his career, while highlighting that he is proud of fulfilling his father’s wishes.

The World No. 1 is spearheading his title run at the Australian Open with notable performances, defeating Adam Walton, Yannick Hanfmann, Corentin Moutet, and Tommy Paul along the way. He played his 100th Grand Slam match against Frenchman Moutet and etched his name in history with an 87-13 record at the majors, equalling the record of the icon Bjorn Borg.
In his quarterfinal round against the homeland’s Alex de Minaur, he played notably, clinching all three sets with a final scoreline of 7-5, 6-2, 6-1. After his win against the sixth-seeded star, Alcaraz was asked how his family and team’s presence helps him during his run in tournaments, given that he is competing far from home throughout the year.
While revealing their major role, the El Palmar, Murcia, native expressed, “Well, it’s great for me. Obviously sometimes we just make some jokes in the locker room, all the players told me, I mean, you can’t play a football match with your team. So it’s funny but I need it. I need my team. I need my people around me. They are the reason that I play such great tennis because off the court, they made me feel great, feel like I’m at home every time.”
Alcaraz continued highlighting the importance of receiving support from his brother, father, and uncle during his Australian Open run. Furthermore, the six-time champion also shared that he is delighted to experience such moments with his father, a tennis coach and club administrator at Real Sociedad Club de Campo de Murcia, who had to end his professional tennis career due to financial issues.
He continued, “So, having my brother, having my dad here, part of my family, my uncle as well. So it’s been great so far. And I’m just really proud and really happy to see my dad because these things experience and living these kind of things it was his dream when he was playing tennis and I’m just really proud and I’m really happy to see him making his dream with me. So I’m just really proud.”
A few days ago, Alcaraz also announced that his older brother, Álvaro, who often accompanies him, will take on a prominent role on his coaching team. In his semifinal round, Alcaraz is set to face Alexander Zverev, with the duo having a head-to-head of 6-6.
