Carlos Alcaraz has advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open and has recently shared that one of his family members will take on a role on his team. The World No. 1’s decision for the coaching addition comes after announcing his split from long-time coach Juan Carlos Ferrero in December last year, under whom he had won 24 singles titles, including 6 Majors.
Carlos Alcaraz Reveals Who Will Be Taking a Significant Role in His Team and the Reason Behind the Inclusion
Alcaraz has delivered impressive performances at Melbourne Park and has defeated Adam Walton, Yannick Hanfmann, and Frenchman Corentin Moutet in the third round with a final scoreline of 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 at the Rod Laver Arena. Alcaraz’s match against Moutet marked his 100th Grand Slam match, and he now holds an 87-13 record at the majors, tying with icon Bjorn Borg.
The El Palmar, Murcia, native has commenced his 2026 season without his coach, Carlos Ferrero, who had guided him from the start of his professional career in 2018 to 2025. As part of their successful partnership, Alcaraz reached the top spot and achieved notable feats.
The ATP star is now moving ahead with his co-coach, Samuel López, and has recently shared that his older brother, Álvaro, will take on a role on his team moving forward. During his post-game press conference, Alcaraz reflected on the significant role his older brother has played in his life and why adding him to his team would benefit him, among other things.
He mentioned, “My brother is a very important person in my personal and professional life. He provides me with many positive things that I need to perform better on the court and in tournaments. Now he will take on a more prominent role along with Samu.”
Alcaraz continued, “He knows how we operate, how the circuit works, and he knows a lot about tennis. Sometimes, he has opinions and a way of seeing things that benefit both me and Samu. Happy to see him in the box, even more involved, and he contributes a lot to me.”
Coming on to his court action, Alcaraz will be clashing against American star Tommy Paul, the World No. 20, in his fourth round. The Spaniard leads their head-to-head 5-2, and the duo last battled in the quarterfinals of the 2025 French Open, where Alcaraz took the win.
