Shelton’s Houston campaign marked another important step in his transition from hard courts to clay. Competing at the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships as the top seed, the American began his run with a first-round bye before edging past Zhang Zhizhen in a straight-sets victory, 7-6(5), 7-6(3).
While his singles journey ended in the quarterfinals against Thiago AgustÃn Tirante after a three-set battle, Shelton rebounded impressively in doubles, teaming up with Andres Andrade to clinch the title. The duo overcame top seeds Rafael Matos and Orlando Luz 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 in the final.
His girlfriend, Rodman, was present throughout the clay-court tournament, offering visible support from the stands. Her Instagram post reflected that experience, featuring a pair of photos that captured the couple sharing a kiss courtside.

What to Expect from Ben Shelton at the BMW Open in Munich
Looking ahead, the world No. 8 is set to return to Munich for his second appearance at the ATP 500 BMW Open. In his debut appearance last year, Shelton put together an impressive run, defeating Borna Gojo, Botic van de Zandschulp, Luciano Darderi, and Francisco Cerundolo to reach the singles final.
He ultimately fell 2-6, 4-6 to the top seed, Alexander Zverev. In doubles, the American tennis star teamed up with veteran Rohan Bopanna, with the pair advancing to the quarterfinals before exiting 4-6, 5-7 against Sander Gillé and Jan Zieliński.
This year, the 23-year-old is seeded second at the ATP 500 clay-court event and will take on compatriot and lucky loser Emilio Nava in the first round. This is going to be their first meeting on the ATP Tour, with the winner meeting either Belgian wildcard Alexander Blockx or the world No. 51 Yannick Hanfmann in the second round.
