Before starting his 2026 season, Ben Shelton enjoyed a day off with his girlfriend, professional soccer player Trinity Rodman. The couple attended an NBA game and also trained together.
Rodman plays as a forward for the United States national team and the Washington Spirit in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). She has won the NWSL Championship and was named NWSL Rookie of the Year, among other achievements.

Shelton wrapped up his 2025 season by competing in the ATP Finals in Turin and has since been enjoying some downtime before his 2026 season begins in New Zealand. Rodman also shared a video on social media of herself and Shelton having a fun training session on a tennis court during an “off day.”
“Off day things 😂 😭 @benshelton,” Rodman captioned her Instagram story.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Shelton and Rodman have attended a basketball game together. In December 2025, they went to an NBA G League game where Rodman’s brother, Dennis “DJ” Rodman, was playing as a small forward for the Greensboro Swarm against the San Diego Clippers.
Shelton will begin his 2026 season by competing in the ASB Classic, which is scheduled to take place from January 12 to January 17, 2026, at the Manuka Doctor Arena in Auckland, New Zealand.
In addition to Shelton, players like defending champion Gaël Monfils, Casper Ruud, Sebastián Báez, Jakub Menšík, Luciano Darderi, Cameron Norrie, and Lorenzo Sonego, among others, are also expected to compete in the ATP 250 hard-court tournament in Auckland.
Last year, the former World No. 5 was the top seed at the ASB Classic and began his campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. He faced Menšík in his opening match and lost with a score of 6-7(2), 6-4, 5-7.
Shelton’s best performance at the ASB Classic came in 2024. He was also the top seed and started his run in the second round after a first-round bye. He won his opening match against Fábián Marozsán 6-3, 6-4. The 23-year-old then defeated Roberto Carballés Baena 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals before falling to the eventual runner-up, Taro Daniel, with a scoreline of 5-7, 6-7(9), in the semifinals.
