Barbora Krejčíková vs Alexandra Eala Preview

Barbora Krejčíková will start her Wimbledon title defense against the talented Alexandra Eala. Whoever out of the two wins, will take on either Carolinne Dolehide or Arantxa Rus in the second round of the grass-court Major.

Krejčíková has had a difficult 2025 season due to injuries, winning just three out of six singles matches so far. The Czech started her grass season at the Queen’s Club Championships, where she suffered an opening-round defeat to Rebecca Šramková. She then competed at the Eastbourne Open and reached the quarterfinals after grinding out wins against Harriet Dart (6-3, 6-7(4), 7-5) and Jodie Burrage (6-4, 4-6, 7-6(3)).

Here, the two-time grand Slam singles champion was supposed to play Varvara Gracheva but withdrew from the match.

Alexandra Eala has had a couple of impressive performances during the 2025 season, that has seen her rack up nine wins out of 16 WTA Tour main-draw matches so far. The Filipina, who is a graduate from Rafael Nadal’s academy, had a fairy-tale of a run at the Miami Open, where she reached the semifinals before falling to Jessica Pegula.

She recently reached her maiden WTA singles final at the Eastbourne Open, beating Lucia Bronzetti, Jelena Ostapenko, Dayana Yastremska, and Varvara Gracheva in the process. Here, the 20-year-old had a few championship points, but eventually suffered a 4-6, 6-1, 6-7(10) defeat to Maya Joint.

Barbora Krejčíková vs Alexandra Eala Head-to-Head

Barbora Krejčíková vs Alexandra Eala Prediction

Eala has the edge entering the match given her recent performance in Eastbourne, while Krejčíková has been struggling to find consistency for some time. Even if we look in the 2024 season, the Czech had a lot of early exits in tournaments before and after she won Wimbledon. This season, she has played only a handful of tournaments and is yet to beat a player ranked in the Top 50.

Krejčíková has a versatile game, that helps her attack but at the same time counterpunch when needed. The 29-year-old’s swift transitions from defense to offense, along with her net game and movement, will be very crucial for her.

Eala has an attacking style and will look to dictate points from the very first game. Her serve is not one that fetches a lot of aces but it is still effective enough, not to forget her court coverage.

Considering how Krejčíková has struggled, there is a good chance of creating the second successive instance of a defending Wimbledon women’s singles champion bowing out in the opening round.

Prediction: Eala to win in three sets.
