Cameron Norrie and Tomáš Macháč will lock horns in the second round of the 2026 Madrid Open. Both players have had a mixed start to their clay-court swing and will be eager to make a deep run in Madrid. Macháč had to come from behind to overcome Francisco Comesana in the first round, while Norrie will start his Madrid Open campaign on Friday.

Norrie vs Macháč Head-to-Head Record
Norrie leads the head-to-head 2-0. He defeated Macháč in four sets at Wimbledon in 2023. Their second meeting came on clay in Geneva last year, but it ended abruptly when Macháč was forced to retire in the third set.
The Brit’s form is trending upwards after quarterfinal appearances in Barcelona and Indian Wells. However, he will be disappointed to have lost to Rafael Jódar in straight sets and missed out on the opportunity to make a deeper run last week.
Macháč has shown glimpses of his quality this season, with a title in Adelaide — his best result so far. The Czech player also managed to take a set off Jannik Sinner in Monte-Carlo, something no one else has managed to do over the last month or so.
However, his win-loss record in 2026 stands at 12-8, and his lack of consistency continued at the Barcelona Open last week, where he lost to Andrey Rublev in straight sets.
Norrie vs Macháč Prediction
Macháč did manage to start off strong in Madrid, firing 9 aces and breaking Comesana’s serve twice en route to a comeback win. The 25-year-old will be encouraged by that come-from-behind win after firing 37 winners.
But he also had 23 unforced errors in that match and will definitely need to improve on that if he wants to defeat Norrie on Friday.
Norrie holds a 61% win percentage on clay, with his ability to grind out wins serving him well on the surface. He has also won two clay-court titles. His most recent triumph on the surface at the Rio Open in 2023.
The 30-year-old has made the third round in each of the last four editions of the Madrid Open, and we are backing him to overcome Macháč in what could be a tightly contested matchup on Friday.
