‘We’re Kind Of Figuring It Out’ — Stefon Diggs Makes Feelings Clear On Possibility Of Signing With NFC Contender

Wide receiver Stefon Diggs addressed speculation linking him to a move to the Washington Commanders as a free agent.

Wide receiver Stefon Diggs is one of the most highly coveted free agents in the NFL after being released by the New England Patriots in March. Diggs, who was dealing with off-field legal issues, was recently found not guilty of felony strangulation as well as assault and battery charges in a case that put his NFL future in jeopardy.

In addition, the wide receiver, who had been under review by the NFL because of the case, will not face any discipline under the league’s personal conduct policy.

Stefon Diggs Addresses NFL Future

Diggs has been linked with several teams since the conclusion of his case and being cleared by the NFL last week. In an interview with “Fox 5 DC” on Monday, Diggs addressed speculation linking him to a move to NFC East contenders, the Washington Commanders.

“I never realized how many fans it was back home until I was a free agent and people were like, ‘Are you gonna come back home?'” Diggs said. “Especially when they see me back, I’m like this, I’ve been living here for my whole life, I’ve been living here for 10 years. They was just like this, ‘Oh, we never see you.’ I was like, ‘Man, y’all wasn’t looking.'”

“It’s a lot of hopes,” Diggs added. “We’re kind of figuring it out, working through some things. I did have a small piece of me, like, ‘Damn, it would be great to come home and play in front of the fans I used to play in front of as a young adolescent in college and just kind of doing something for the city.’ Hopefully, things do work out, we’ll see how it goes.”

Diggs, who grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland, also played for the Maryland Terrapins during his college football career, further strengthening his connection to the DMV.

After being selected No. 146 by the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Diggs quickly established himself as one of the most explosive wide receivers in the league. He was traded to the Buffalo Bills in 2020 and the Houston Texans in 2024 and finally joined the Patriots a year later.
