After being released by the New England Patriots in March, wide receiver Stefon Diggs established himself as one of the most coveted free agents in the NFL.
In May, the former Patriots star was found not guilty of felony strangulation, assault, and battery charges by a jury at Norfolk County District Court. He remains unsigned, and now his legal issues continue.
Stefon Diggs’ Off-Field Legal Issues Persist
Diggs sued Christopher Griffith for defamation in October 2025, claiming that Griffith was spreading lies about him. Griffith filed a countersuit in November 2025, alleging that he had been drugged and sexually assaulted at the wide receiver’s home. Diggs has denied that this ever happened.
On Thursday, TMZ reported that Griffith turned over text messages between the pair to back his claims.
“Stefon Diggs’ male sexual assault accuser claims he turned over more than a hundred pages of text messages and other communications with the NFL star to back up his claims in court,” the TMZ report read. “In court docs, Stefon’s accuser, Christopher Griffith, claims he produced over 100 pages of communications — including texts on iMessage and Instagram — between himself and Diggs.
“Stefon had claimed Christopher had failed to turn over Instagram messages … but Christopher said Stefon has those messages himself. Stefon claims Christopher blocked him on Instagram and he can’t see their old messages anymore… so he asked the judge to order Christopher to hand them over.”

The former Patriots star’s ex-girlfriend, Mulan Hernandez, also filed a civil countersuit against him in a Texas court in April 2025, which became public in October 2025, alleging that Diggs had attempted to stop her from reporting physical abuse in 2024.
It followed a suit filed by the wide receiver in February 2025 alleging assault and extortion by Hernandez. Diggs had also been charged with felony strangulation, assault, and battery after a pay dispute with his personal chef in December 2025.
After Diggs was found not guilty of felony strangulation, assault, and battery charges in May, the league closed its review of the wide receiver’s conduct in June, determining that there was insufficient evidence of a personal conduct policy violation.
Diggs has been linked with several teams in free agency, including the Washington Commanders. Last season, he earned a PFN WR Impact score of 82.9, which ranked No. 7 in the league. He totaled 85 reception, 4 touchdowns, and 1,013 receiving yards, the seventh 1,000-yard season of his career, while helping the Patriots reach Super Bowl LX.
Despite his strong play during his lone season with the Patriots, New England released the wide receiver amid his off-field issues.
