Joey Porter Sr. Gets Support From Other Steelers in Calling Out Ben Roethlisberger

Porter and Roethlisberger are both Steelers legends, and they even won a Super Bowl together. They were also both inducted into the franchise’s Hall of Honor in 2025, solidifying their legacies in team history.

The linebacker didn’t hold back recently when commenting on his former quarterback, calling him a bad teammate and a bad person. He referenced his off-the-field issues and admitted that the team would “protect” his image by essentially keeping some controversial stories in-house and not going public with them.

In the aftermath of his statement, other Steelers players backed Porter up, essentially agreeing with his accusations.

“Go off,” said Mason Rudolph. Rudolph spent four years with Roethlisberger in the Steelers, mostly serving as his primary backup. He filled in for him to start ten games during that stretch until the veteran retired after the 2021 season.

“Talking that talk,” stated Mike Mitchell. Mitchell spent four of his ten NFL seasons with the Steelers. All of them were during Roethlisberger’s career, so he has first-hand experience being around him in the locker room.

“Hold them boys accountable,” added Mike Adams. Mike Adams joined in on the negative opinions of the quarterback. Porter started the trend of attacking his character and personal life, which has led others around the league to support the bold accusations.

Porter may have been referring to his 2010 suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Roethlisberger faced multiple allegations of sexual assault, but was never criminally charged. He was also involved in a serious motorcycle accident in 2006, in which he was driving without a license and not wearing a helmet.

He may also be referencing other situations that haven’t been publicly reported, and may resent the idea that he and the team apparently covered up for him. He claims that anyone involved with the franchise, including Roethlisberger himself, would agree that he was not a good teammate, despite being an excellent player.

He helped them to win three AFC Championships and two Super Bowl rings, and many around the league believe he will be voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His consistent value during his legendary career spanning nearly two decades with the Steelers included him finishing among the top 12 quarterbacks in PFSN’s Impact Rankings 13 times.
