Wrexham, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac since 2021, is hoping to achieve their fourth successive promotion this term. They are in an EFL Championship play-off spot and have a real chance of getting promoted to the Premier League.
Now, they have tied down two players on new deals, helping them focus on their mission.
Oliver Rathbone and George Dobson Commit Future to Wrexham With Contract Extensions
Earlier on Monday, Feb. 23, Wrexham midfielder Oliver Rathbone extended his deal through to June 2028. The 29-year-old offensive-minded central operator has been a great Bosman signing for the Welsh side, having won their Player of the Season award last term.
“I’m absolutely delighted to sign a new contract. It’s a special day for me and my family. I’m over the moon. My time here has been great so far. It’s probably the best football I’ve played in my career. I want to keep playing, keep improving, and create more special moments for this club,” Rathbone commented after renewing his Red Dragons contract.
Meanwhile, Wrexham midfielder George Dobson has also added 12 months to his deal, with the player’s contract now set to expire in June 2028. He has established himself as a crucial starter for his club over the last two seasons, playing in a number six role.
“I’m delighted to sign a new contract with the club. It’s been an amazing 19 months. I’ve loved every minute of it. It’s been a fantastic journey so far. I’m delighted to extend, and hopefully we can create many more special memories,” Dobson claimed.
On the other hand, Wrexham head coach Phil Parkinson has expressed his elation about the aforementioned pair’s recent contract extensions. He lauded both Rathbone and Dobson for their tireless performances since their arrivals in the summer of 2024.

“They’re both really good lads, and good players, who’ve made significant contributions for us last year and this season. Ollie has been phenomenal for us, he really has, and George has adapted well to Championship level. They both typify what we want at the club. They play with real heart and commitment every single game, and it’s great that they’ve got new deals,” the former Sunderland and Bolton Wanderers manager remarked.
So far this campaign, Rathbone has made 16 appearances across competitions owing to an ankle injury. However, he has still managed to score six times in 666 minutes. Dobson, however, has remained a mainstay for Parkinson’s outfit in the Championship this season. The 28-year-old has netted once in 35 total club matches this term.
