USMNT Hero Christian Pulisic Backed to Become Potential Replacement for Premier League Superstar

Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has backed USMNT and AC Milan attacker Christian Pulisic to replace Mohamed Salah at the Reds.

United States men’s national team (USMNT) player Christian Pulisic has made the headlines this season due to his eye-catching performances for AC Milan. And, an ex-Liverpool striker, Emile Heskey, has named the Rossoneri star as a Mohamed Salah replacement.

USMNT Star Christian Pulisic Identified As 33-Year-Old’s Replacement

During a recent interview with OLBG, Heskey highlighted how Liverpool has a difficult task of finding a successor to the Egyptian superstar on their hands. He pointed out how the 33-year-old winger has been a consistent goalscoring threat for close to a decade.

When asked to name potential replacements for the four-time Premier League Golden Boot winner, Heskey named Pulisic as one of three possible future targets for the Reds.

“I don’t think you can replace Salah but, I do like the lad from PSG, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. He would be my go-to. Would Jarrod Bowen be a downgrade from Mohamed Salah? I think most players are a downgrade but, to be honest, Bowen is a different type of player and he would probably help the formation. Bowen has a different work rate and ethic because he’s coming from West Ham and before that the lower leagues,” Heskey commented.

Heskey, who played for the Anfield outfit between 2000 and 2004, lauded the AC Milan ace for his attractive style of play despite the player’s previous sub-par stint at Chelsea.

“I actually quite like Christian Pulisic. He is very direct. He probably didn’t get as many goals as I would have liked him to get at Chelsea but I thought he gave defences problems. Obviously, after a good World Cup, being at home with the pressure on him, he is definitely someone who could offer something different to Mohamed Salah.”

Backing the American forward to replicate Salah’s continual rise after leaving the Serie A to join the Premier League, Heskey concluded, “Mo left Chelsea to go to Italy and look at what he’s done for Liverpool (since arriving from AS Roma in 2017). I think it’d be great to see someone like Pulisic come back into the Premier League in the same way.”

Pulisic, who will turn 28 this September, has impressed at AC Milan since leaving Chelsea for a deal worth around $24 million in the summer of 2023. He has scored 42 goals and recorded 25 assists in 123 games across all competitions for his current club so far.

Salah, on the other hand, has failed to replicate past season’s Premier League Player of the Season-winning form this term. He has contributed 7 goals and 8 assists in 28 total games for Liverpool this term after producing 57 goal involvements last season.
