Manchester United have been in turmoil since the turn of the year, with the club’s leadership opting to fire Ruben Amorim last week. Yet, they are reportedly confident that a long-term target will potentially join them after the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
Manchester United Assured About Transfer for Midfielder
According to The Sun, Manchester United are growing optimistic about potentially snapping up Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba this summer. They have earmarked the Cameroon international as a top summer target with no January signings set to arrive.
Baleba, valued at $70 million by Transfermarkt, was a subject of interest from Manchester United last summer. However, a transfer failed to materialize, as the Red Devils deemed the Brighton star’s asking price of $107 million to $134 million too steep.
But now, the Old Trafford side is confident it can wrap up a deal to sign Baleba, as the player’s stock has fallen in recent months. They would likely hand the 22-year-old a key role in the heart of midfield should a permanent move happen in the summer.
So far this season, Baleba has struggled to replicate last campaign’s breakout form. He has started 16 of his 19 appearances across competitions for Brighton, failing to score once.
On the other hand, Manchester United are also keeping close tabs on Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott right now.
Manchester United Ace Told He Is ‘Not Good Enough’
Speaking recently on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, ex-Manchester United first-team coach Rene Meulensteen analyzed one of the Red Devils’ summer arrivals’ performances.
“I think that Manchester United have quite a few individuals in the squad who are not good enough for Manchester United. They concede far too many goals, defensively, they’re not solid, and every team analyses that, and every team that has the quality and the courage, you’re going to create things,” Meulensteen said.

The Dutchman continued, “I think if you look at the top, top teams, look at Arsenal, they’ve got a really good goalkeeper. Liverpool and Manchester City (both have) good goalkeepers. United? The goalkeepers are not good enough. This (Senne) Lammens boy is potentially a really good goalkeeper. I don’t think at this moment in time, he’s ready, and he’s not good enough.”
Since leaving Royal Antwerp in a potential $29 million deal, Senne Lammens has kept only two clean sheets and conceded 23 goals in 16 overall outings for the Red Devils.
