Barcelona is relishing a memorable campaign, leading the La Liga table by four points and winning the Supercopa de Espana trophy earlier on Sunday, Jan. 11. And now, the Catalans are reportedly keen to sign Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford permanently.
Barcelona in Talks To Discuss Marcus Rashford Options
According to talkSPORT, Barcelona has started talks with Premier League club Manchester United over a possible transfer of Rashford, who is on a season-long loan at the Blaugrana. They, however, are unwilling to pay the player’s $35 million option to buy this summer.
The La Liga champions, who are on 49 points from 19 league outings now, are keen to find a more economical alternative to signing Rashford. They have informed Manchester United that they could either sign the attacker for less than his clause sum this summer, or secure a fresh loan with a conditional obligation to purchase for the 2026-27 campaign.
Barcelona is believed to have an advantage over Manchester United, as the attacker is not keen on joining any other club other than the La Liga side. They are prepared to offer the star, who has started 17 overall outings for the Catalans this season, a deal until June 2029.
Speaking to talkSPORT, European soccer expert Andy Brassell claimed that Barcelona have a good chance of signing Rashford from Manchester United, who want to sell their ace.
“He’s probably the most sensible financial deal out there. He’s maybe the cheapest financial deal out there. They may even loan him for an extra year. If United are keen on moving him on permanently and if something can be worked out, it feels like one of the best deals out there for Barcelona because they know he works there already,” Brassell said.

Brassell added, “I think if they go out there and try and buy someone of Marcus Rashford’s quality on the open market, it’s going to be a heck of a lot more expensive. We’ve got to bear in mind as well that next season, they’ll probably, almost certainly, have Robert Lewandowski’s wages off the books.”
Rashford, who last featured for his parent club in December 2024, played in seven minutes of Barcelona’s 3-2 Supercopa de Espana final win over Real Madrid earlier this Sunday. The 68-cap England international has netted seven goals and registered 11 assists in 27 games across all competitions for the Blaugrana in the ongoing 2025-26 campaign.
On the other hand, the 28-year-old superstar has found the back of the net 138 times and laid out 78 assists in 426 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United in the last 10 years.
