Manchester United is currently in the process of identifying a replacement for former head coach Ruben Amorim. And acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed whether former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is close to being named the new Red Devils boss.
Journalist Sheds Light on Xavi’s Manchester United Links
Since the start of this week, Xavi has allegedly been linked with the Manchester United job. But, according to Romano, the high-profile free agent and the Red Devils have yet to be in touch with one another despite the Spaniard being on the club’s managerial wish list.
Manchester United, who are seventh with 32 points from 21 Premier League matches, have just begun their search for a successor to Amorim. Their leadership is believed to be keen to take their time to assess all potential options before appointing a new head coach.
On the other hand, Xavi is reportedly open to sealing a move to the Premier League, ending his 18-month sabbatical from coaching. The ex-Barcelona midfielder, who coached the Blaugrana to the 2022-23 La Liga title, is refreshed and prepared for a new challenge.

After being named as Barcelona boss in November 2021, Xavi guided his boyhood club to a league title and two runners-up finishes. He also helped the Catalan side lift the Supercopa de Espana trophy in the 2022-23 campaign, handing Lamine Yamal his debut as well.
Xavi, who began his coaching career at Qatari club Al-Sadd in May 2019, oversaw 91 wins, 23 draws, and 29 defeats in 143 matches at Barcelona, according to Transfermarkt.
Manchester United Urged To Reunite With Barcelona Star
During a recent interaction on TNT Sports, former Manchester United player Owen Hargreaves expressed his desire to see Barcelona star Marcus Rashford return to play for the Red Devils.
“I hope that Marcus comes back because he’s a special player. I don’t know what happened between Marcus and Ruben (Amorim), but I don’t think there’s any denying his talent. I don’t think Marcus should’ve been in a position where he shouldered all the weight for everything. I think Marcus is a super talent and the club could use him,” Hargreaves said.
Rashford, who last featured for his parent club in December 2024, is relishing a decent loan stint at Barcelona. The 28-year-old has found the back of the net seven times and recorded 11 assists in 26 overall appearances for the Blaugrana, according to Transfermarkt.
Overall, Rashford has produced 138 goals and 78 assists in 426 games for the Red Devils.
