Super Bowl Champion Reveals the Real Reason Shedeur Sanders Hasn’t Played for Browns Even in Garbage Time

James Jones says Browns' Shedeur Sanders deserves playing time, as Dillon Gabriel struggles at quarterback in 2025 NFL season.

Cleveland Browns quarterback drama yet again, and now it’s about Shedeur Sanders. This college star hasn’t played with his NFL team yet. Why is that?

It’s official: Sanders will not play for the Browns anytime soon, at least that’s what Super Bowl Champion James Jones acknowledges. One of the hottest topics in football right now is whether Sanders should play or if quarterback Dillon Gabriel will get his time on the field now that Joe Flacco is gone. Many opinions surround this topic. Which one do you side with?

Why Hasn’t Shedeur Sanders Played Yet?

It all started when Sanders tweeted a cryptic tweet on X.

Sanders waves the white flag and makes it apparent that it’s out of his hands. Everyone is waiting for him to play, but the Browns have yet to make that happen.

Sanders is a 5th-round draft pick, and his slide to the 5th slot indicates he is in dire need of development training. Many may say that Sanders isn’t ready for the big leagues yet and that they should let Gabriel get his time on the field.

Jones disagrees; he believes Sanders should get his time now. He even says, “It’s very, very clear he’s better than Dillon Gabriel.” With Sanders’ tweet, it looks like he’s just trying to make light of the situation. Jones goes on about how Sanders isn’t responsible for how the NFL has treated him. Is there controversy with Sanders?

Highly considered a “nepo baby,” Sanders comes from a high-profile family that the media closely follows. They love drama, and having Sanders play might spark a media frenzy given his attachment to the press.

His dad, Deion Sanders, was an NFL star, and now he coaches at the University of Colorado, where his son used to play under him. This father-son duo also had time at Sanders’ previous college, which was Jackson State University.

The other question revolving around this topic is “Is Sanders even good? Or did the Browns grab him because of his last name?” Coach Kevin Stefanski of the Browns wouldn’t intentionally sabotage the team if Sanders were worthy to play and has not yet. There must be a reason Sanders has yet to enter the field.

Sanders should get his time, especially if quarterback Gabriel is declining. He has started three games, but he’s not performing well, as the Browns rank 31st according to the PFSN Offense Impact metric, with a grade of F.

The Browns also invested a significant amount of their draft capital in Gabriel, so they are allowing him the time to develop going forward. If there is no progress with Gabriel, then Sanders should have the opportunity to play. Once Sanders makes it to the field, even in garbage time, the media will explode.

The Browns will have the spotlight of the media, even if it’s in a bad way. If Sanders gets garbage time, Coach Stefanski will be able to scout how he plays in a real game, and that could indicate him moving to a starter position, but it has yet to happen, so for now, Brown’s fans have to wait to see what Stefanski will do.
