The Seattle Seahawks have one of the best running back duos in the NFL with Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet, but that didn’t stop them from recently adding even more depth to the position. One of their strengths just got even stronger with an intriguing signing ahead of their Week 13 matchup.

How Does Cam Akers Fit Into the Seahawks’ Solid Backfield?
Seattle enjoys the luxury of having two running backs on its roster who have both proven capable of handling a starter’s workload effectively. Walker and Charbonnet have done so at different times, creating one of the best tandems in the league.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that they have now added another option into the mix by signing Cam Akers. He is still just 26 years old and already has 17 career touchdowns, including 13 rushing and four receiving.
Akers began his NFL career with the Los Angeles Rams before also spending time with the Minnesota Vikings and Houston Texans. He was most recently with the Vikings earlier in the 2025-26 campaign, playing behind Jordan Mason and Aaron Jones.
The Vikings are essentially out of the playoff race right now, so a switch to the surging Seahawks should be an exciting one for Akers. Their 8-3 record is tied for the second-best in the NFC, so they are potentially in the mix to earn the top seed, which comes with homefield advantage and a first-round bye in the postseason.
While an upgraded team is likely a desired change for Akers, it will be interesting to see if he can carve out a relevant role in their offense. Walker and Charbonnet both rank inside of the top 50 running backs in PFSN’s Impact Rankings for this season, so backfield touches may be hard to come by in Seattle.
What he truly offers the Seahawks is additional depth and reliable insurance in case one of their top two options were to go down with an injury. This could be a valuable asset for them as they have their sights set on potentially competing for a Super Bowl ring this year.
The next stop on their quest will come in Week 13, when they host the Vikings, Akers’ former team that recently parted ways with him. It’s unclear if he will be ready to take any touches in the contest or if he will be involved in their game plan, but he will likely have a bit of extra motivation for this one if given an opportunity.
