Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley exited early and did not return from the team’s division win over the New York Giants with a groin injury.
Barkley had eclipsed 100 rushing yards for the first time this season prior to his exit. Notably breaking off an early 65-yard touchdown that steered the Eagles toward their 38-20 win on Sunday, improving their record to 6-2.
Then Barkley had a 28-yard run late in the third quarter that resulted in the All-Pro running back walking gingerly on his way to the medical tent.
How long will Barkley be out?
Barkley was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game, but the running back said he isn’t overly concerned about the injury.
In a video posted to X by NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo, Barkley explained how he “wasn’t worried about it.”
“I’ve dealt with this before, nothing crazy,” Barkley added.
Meanwhile, Barkley says he’s not concerned about his groin injury. Says he’s dealt with it before. As for whether he pushed to get back in the game, he said, “I went out swinging, I’ll say that.” pic.twitter.com/x16nihlqmV

Barkley also mentioned that he attempted to get back into the game, saying, “I went out swinging, I’ll say that.”
The Eagles are entering their bye week in Week 9, so Barkley being sidelined for the rest of the game was likely precautionary.
The Eagles’ run game has been inconsistent at best to begin the season. Barkley entered Sunday’s game with just 369 rushing yards on 113 attempts with three touchdowns.
Barkley also only averaged 3.3 yards per carry, but that was a big difference from his 10.7 yards per carry in the win. The struggles on the ground are a stark difference from Barkley’s career-best 2,005 rushing yards a season ago.
If Philadelphia is to be without Barkley, they have a trio of running backs they could lean on.
Will Shipley, former Packers running back AJ Dillon, and recently acquired Tank Bigsby are all candidates to fill Barkley’s role should he miss time. Bigsby, recently acquired from the Jacksonville Jaguars, showed his prowess as he finished the day with nine carries for 104 yards.
The Eagles’ bye week comes at a perfect time, as it gives Barkley, along with wide receiver AJ Brown, the time they need to heal without missing even more time.
The team will need him in their Week 10 contest when they travel to Green Bay to take on the Packers on Monday Night Football on Nov. 10.
