The New Orleans Saints have been linked with a free-agent wide receiver signing as they look to compete in an improving NFC South division. The Saints have already added Brandin Cooks to their wide receiver room this offseason, but appear to be intent on adding more weapons in the passing game.
Saints Hosting Free Agent Wide Receiver
The Saints were a bottom-10 team in passing completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns in 2024. Much of that had to do with the injury to starting quarterback Derek Carr, who was a top-10 quarterback in completion percentage, touchdown percentage, and passer rating.
A combination of Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener failed to adequately replace Carr, as the team lost all seven games that Carr missed. With second-round pick Tyler Shough set to take over this year, though, the team appears to want to surround the rookie with as much talent as possible.
As well as the injuries to Carr, the team’s top two receiving options also missed significant time last season. After significant injuries to both Chris Olave and Rasheed Shahid, reliable targets were hard to find. That could be the reason for the team’s interest in another veteran receiver, with former Jacksonville Jaguar Gabe Davis reportedly set for a visit.

Davis has also met with the Pittsburgh Steelers recently, with several other notable receivers available in free agency.
What Does Gabe Davis Offer in 2025?
Having only turned 26 years old in April, Davis should have a lot of serviceable football ahead of him. A recognized deep threat, Davis can serve as a field stretcher, allowing his teammates more room to make plays in the short and intermediate areas.
Davis’ touchdown output took a dive with Jacksonville last season (two), but he had remained remarkably consistent in his four years with the Buffalo Bills. Davis scored seven touchdowns in three of his four years in Western New York, falling just short with six in the remaining year.

With Shahid the designated deep-ball threat in New Orleans for the last two seasons, Davis’ introduction would be an interesting one. With new head coach Kellen Moore now calling plays for the Saints, Shahid could be one of several players who see their usage change.
With the Steelers also interested, the Saints may need to make a good impression in order to land the receiver, or simply offer more money than the AFC North outfit. Davis already receives $11.5 million in outstanding guarantees from the Jaguars in 2025, after he was released with two years remaining on his deal.
