The Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator search appears to be narrowing as the market continues to shift around the league. After missing on several top targets, the Eagles could be zeroing in on a familiar name with a Super Bowl resume.
Matt Nagy Reportedly Emerging As Leading Candidate for Eagles OC Job
According to Victor Williams of The Philly Pod, Matt Nagy is emerging as the leading candidate for Philadelphia’s offensive coordinator opening. While multiple candidates remain under consideration, Nagy could hold the edge due to his recent experience calling plays for the Chiefs.
“Matt Nagy appears to be the leading candidate for the Eagles OC job from what I am gathering,” Williams wrote on X. “Cooter remains in the mix, Nagy has the edge as of now due to recent play-calling experience.”
Nagy’s remains available and won’t be returning to Kansas City. Earlier this week, the Chiefs announced the signing of Eric Bieniemy as offensive coordinator. Bieniemy previously served as Kansas City’s offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2022. He helped the Chiefs win two Super Bowls and reach another before leaving in pursuit of head-coaching opportunities.
Nagy took over following his stint as head coach of the Chicago Bears and led Kansas City to a Super Bowl win in 2023. The offense, however, declined over the past two seasons, and 2025 marked the first year the Chiefs missed the playoffs during Patrick Mahomes’ career. According to PFSN’s Offense Impact Metric, Kansas City fell to 17th in 2025.
Nagy also worked with Mahomes earlier in his career, serving as Kansas City’s offensive coordinator from 2016 to 2017 during Mahomes’s rookie season.
The Eagles have interviewed a wide range of candidates during the process, including Jim Bob Cooter, Zac Robinson, Mike Kafka, Bobby Slowik, Josh Grizzard, Frank Smith, and Jerrod Johnson. Former Giants head coach Brian Daboll had been viewed as a top target before agreeing to join Robert Saleh’s staff in Tennessee as its offensive coordinator.
Philadelphia’s offense finished far below expectations this season, ranking 16th in PFSN’s Offense Impact rankings. The Eagles posted a 74.6 score and a C grade. Philadelphia battled offensive line injuries but rostered multiple All-Pro playmakers like A.J. Brown and Saquon Barkley.
With options thinning and recent movement elsewhere, Nagy appears to be gaining traction as the Eagles move toward the next phase of their offseason. No decisions have been made yet, but Philadelphia is eyeing Nagy in hopes he can reinvigorate its offense.
