Rob Gronkowski Breaks Silence on Viral Rumor That He’s Training for an NFL Comeback

A viral rumor regarding multiple Super Bowl champion turned talking head Rob Gronkowski has been rampant across social media, claiming that the former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end is not done playing.

Gronkowski, a Western New York native, has publicly expressed his desire to play for the “only team in New York,” the Buffalo Bills, before. But while playing for the Bills isn’t likely, the idea of the powerhouse TE coming out of retirement has been circulating for a while.

Is Rob Gronkowski Ready To Unretire Again?

The rumors were seemingly ignited by Denver sports radio host Cecil Lammey, who stated that the game-wrecking tight end was working out pretty hard in Colorado.

“Sources tell me Gronkowski has been working out in Vail this offseason as he wants to physically be ready for another NFL season.” Lammey continued, “High-altitude training in the offseason could help him prepare for the rigors of training camp if a team shows interest.”

Gronkowski, however, recently addressed the rumors when asked by Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz. Schultz officially reported the news on X, stating, “I asked Rob Gronkowski about his so-called NFL comeback. Here’s what Gronk had to say:

“‘Crazy bro. They must know something about me that I don’t. I wish I still had those powers because that would be cool if I did. But I was just in Australia for a few days. Now it’s time to relax a little. No football.'”

To be fair, this isn’t the first time the legendary tight end has been asked about a possible second retirement.

PFSN recently reported on the rumors and other times that Gronkowski has spoken about getting back on the gridiron, drawing to his appearance on the “Dudes Being Dudes” podcast, where he commented how he “might as well go back to football because I’m grinding harder than I ever grinded before, and I’m not even playing football.”

However, it looks like Gronkowski was simply pointing out how intense his schedule has become since embracing his new career path in media. As noted in the PFSN article, Gronkowski continued on the idea of unretirement, adding, “I might as well go back because playing ball would be easier than what I’ve been doing over the last six months.”

There’s no doubt he’s telling the truth about that. While the thought of Gronkowski’s return to the NFL is certainly good for ratings, fans of the sport will have to wait and see if it ever actually happens. Yet, the rumors have officially been put to rest… for now.
