The San Francisco 49ers suffered a shocking loss in Week 4, falling to the Jacksonville Jaguars, 26-21. All of the 49ers’ injuries are well-documented, but the team was still able to navigate its way to a 3-0 start. While they won those games by a combined 10 points, it finally caught up to them in Week 4 as they were dealt another injury in the form of Ricky Pearsall.
Will Ricky Pearsall Play in Week 5?
After four weeks, 25-year-old Pearsall is the team’s leading receiver. He’s appeared in all four games, pacing the team with his 20 receptions for 327 yards. Currently, he’s averaging 16.4 yards per reception, by far the most on the team. RB Christian McCaffrey’s 31 receptions are the most on the team, but he only has 305 receiving yards.
Aside from Pearsall, only one other wideout has 100+ yards. That would be 28-year-old Jauan Jennings, who has nine receptions for 129 yards and a touchdown. Somehow, Pearsall has yet to catch his first touchdown of the season. Heading into Week 5, he may have to wait a little longer.
On Tuesday, the 49ers’ general manager confirmed that Pearsall is questionable for the Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Rams.
NFL insider Adam Schefter later confirmed that Pearsall did not practice on Tuesday. “Two days before they play the Rams in LA, there will be no practice again today for 49ers QB Brock Purdy (toe), and WRs Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs) and Ricky Pearsall (knee),” he wrote on X.
On Wednesday, the 49ers announced that Pearsall was ruled out for the game against the Rams. Moreover, San Francisco will also be without Purdy and Jennings.

Pearsall’s worst game in 2025 was against the Jaguars, but his numbers tell how good he’s been this season. Despite the injury, he finished with four receptions for 46 yards. It marked the third time he finished a game with four receptions, but his 11.5 yards per reception was nearly three yards shy of the minimum he put up in his other three games.
Moving forward, the 49ers will look to remain healthy and get back on track. QB Brock Purdy is third in PFSN’s QB Impact, with a B+ rating. San Francisco’s offense is 11th, with just a C+. Now with Purdy, Jennings, and Pearsall all out for the game against the Rams, it would be a big surprise if the 49ers come away with a win on Thursday night.
