WR Andre Johnson, Houston Texans
Calvin isn’t the only Johnson we’d like to see thrive under a new offense. While the Houston Texans did manage to make the postseason under Gary Kubiak, Andre Johnson never had a legit franchise QB to work with during his time at NRG Stadium.
Drafted in 2003 out of Miami, Johnson became the face of the Texans’ offense and was supposed to be the go-to weapon for David Carr. Carr never panned out, but #80 became a staple of Houston for a dozen seasons. Finishing his career with over 14,000 receiving yards and 77 touchdowns, the all-time leader in yards for the club finally found a quarterback in 2015. That was also when he was in Indianapolis with Andrew Luck under center.
Houston finally found their next great duo in Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins. The former Clemson receiver learned under Johnson for two seasons as the No.2 target before taking over in 2015. He too knows the pain of playing with mediocre quarterbacks. Houston’s defense is serviceable, and Will Fuller has shown glimpses of success through his injury-plagued career thus far. Adding Johnson to the Texans offense would give Watson multiple options downfield and help expand his growth during his third season.
Johnson and Hopkins could be considered elite receivers during their prime years. The latter never received a chance to play with a franchise QB. Having Johnson back could at least give the team a chance at the Lombardi Trophy even if Johnson was a No.3 target.
