Kansas City Chiefs’ star wide receiver Rashee Rice continues to find trouble as he will now serve 30 days in jail for violating probation via marijuana use. The 30-day sentence means the 26-year-old will miss OTA’s as well as the mandatory mini-camp.
The SMU product is in the midst of a five-year probation stint after a car crash in 2024. The accident originally led to a plea deal of five years of probation, but his recent violation triggered an immediate 30-day jail sentence.
During the 2025 season, Rice was also suspended for the first six games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. While he performed well personally upon his return, the Chiefs found themselves outside the playoff picture for the first time since 2014.
Rashee Rice Bashed on Social Media Amid Continuous Off-Field Issues
After news broke Tuesday regarding Rice’s latest mishap, social media went into a frenzy, reacting to yet another bump in the talented wideout’s NFL journey. Underdog NFL and sports reporter Matt Foster detailed the occurrence in two separate posts.
“Breaking: Chiefs WR Rashee Rice violated his probation after testing positive for marijuana,” Foster wrote on X. “Rice has been ordered to serve 30 days in jail, meaning he will miss Chiefs OTAs & Mandatory Mini-Camp.”

Sports doctor Jesse Morse responded to Underdog, noting the promise in Rice’s game. “All the talent in the world, but bro can’t get out of his own way,” said Morse.
Content creator Bryce DeGroat also chimed in. “And just like that, it’s over for the Chiefs,” he said.
Without the former second-round pick, the Chiefs went 3-3 in the opening six contests of the 2025 campaign. Young pass catcher, Xavier Worthy, supplemented most of Rice’s duties in his absence, catching 13 balls for 145 yards and a touchdown.
Speaking of the second-round selection, sports writer Kev Maheserejian believes fantasy football managers will be stupid if they draft Rice in the second round of their drafts.
only person stupider than rashee rice is anyone clicking him in round 2 https://t.co/D6V4Fj6PnB

The negativity did not stop there as several others scolded the 14-time TD scorer for his actions.

“Jail for weed is insane,” said YouTuber Swift. “But also you gotta be smarter than that.”
As some responded similarly to the above, Chiefs reporter Nate Taylor joined the conversation, attempting to provide answers.
Some clarity here. @AdamSchefter & I can report that Rashee Rice is serving his original 30-day sentence as part of him pleading guilty to felony collision involving serious bodily injury & racing on a highway causing bodily injury in a multicar crash in Dallas in May 2024. https://t.co/qwV0X1fxQd

Taylor further elaborates on the aforementioned detail that Rice had to serve 30 days in jail at some point during the five years.
“Some clarity here,” said Taylor. “Adam Schefter and I can report that Rashee Rice is serving his original 30-day sentence as part of him pleading guilty to felony collision involving serious bodily injury & racing on a highway causing bodily injury in a multicar crash in Dallas in May 2024.”
Sports data personality Zain Dhanani elaborated, saying, “Whatever you think about Rashee Rice, I do not think this will result in an additional suspension. It does make me think he’s more likely to do additional behaviors in the future that could impact his availability.”
Continuing, ESPN NFL reporter Jeff Darlington addressed questions about potential additional punishment for the NFL.

With Rice set to miss OTAs and the mandatory minicamp, Darlington touches on the off-field issues that could come up.
“The question then becomes whether the NFL will also provide discipline?” said Darlington. “Based on the fact he did fail this marijuana test through his probation, that’s not through the NFL. Although I did reach out to the league, and their simple comment at this point is ‘We are aware of the report, and we decline further comment at this time.'”
Darlington continued, “We will wait to see whether Rice will face further discipline from the NFL. Certainly, though his own problems to deal with in the immediacy here, with 30 days in jail.”
Despite the drama surrounding Rice, Kansas City will continue with offseason operations, as the NFL’s punishment remains uncertain. According to PFSN’s WR Impact Metric, Rice posted an impact score of 82.0 last season, ranking 16th in the league, and the Chiefs will hope he doesn’t miss any games this year.
