Raiders Announce Massive Decision About Superstar Maxx Crosby’s NFL Future

Deadlines spur action, but it doesn't appear that the Raiders plan to move superstar pass rusher Maxx Crosby in the coming weeks.

For the second time this year, Las Vegas Raiders superstar defensive end Maxx Crosby is the subject of trade rumors.

And for the second time this year, it doesn’t appear like he’s going anywhere.

According to NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero, the Raiders’ brass met with Crosby on Tuesday to reassure him that they have no plans of shipping him off elsewhere ahead of the league’s Nov. 4 trade deadline. Crosby, who turned 28 years old this year, is still in the prime of his career and has solidified his place in the conversation as one of the NFL’s elite pass rushers.

The Raiders didn’t need to express their commitment to Crosby. They already intertwined their futures by signing Crosby to a three-year deal worth $106.5 million in March; $91.5 million of the contract was guaranteed. At the time, he was the highest-paid non-quarterback in league history.

Did the Dallas Cowboys Make a Run at Maxx Crosby?

The Dallas Cowboys have become a popular name ahead of the deadline. On Tuesday, renowned draft analyst Trey Wingo linked them to Crosby, reporting that the Cowboys have inquired what it would take to acquire the pass rusher’s services.

Perplexing? After the Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay in August to get his contract off the books and free up money to utilize elsewhere, maybe. In that trade, the Cowboys received two future first-round draft picks from the Packers and a nose tackle, Kenny Clark.

But Crosby, who isn’t considered a better player than Parsons while also being three years older, likely wouldn’t cost a pair of first-round selections. It’s a moot point now, as the Raiders have already insisted that Crosby isn’t available. Of course, that may mean nothing, but it could also mean something. The trade deadline is two weeks away, and the Raiders could simply be attempting to drive up Crosby’s asking price.

Maxx Crosby’s Contractual Outlook in Las Vegas

Despite Crosby’s lucrative contract, trading him wouldn’t strain the Raiders’ salary cap much. According to Over the Cap, if Crosby is traded before June 1, the Raiders will only be dealt a dead cap hit of just north of $5.1 million.

Crosby is undoubtedly the Raiders’ most coveted asset, but they aren’t winning with him, and that will likely continue whether he’s on the roster or not. It could be in the franchise’s best interest to entertain other teams, including the Cowboys, who have called. The Raiders have lost five of their last six games and have many roster holes that need reinforcement.

A former 2019 fourth-round pick brought aboard when the Raiders were still in Oakland, Crosby has blossomed despite catastrophe around him. The Raiders have finished with double-digit wins in a season just once since and have just one playoff appearance. Crosby is tied for the team lead in sacks (4) with defensive tackle Jonah Laulu.

Crosby is a defenseman who ranks 5th with a PFSN EDGE Impact score of 90.3, while the Raiders rank near the bottom of PFSN Defense Impact. Only four teams have a worse score.
