Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach Pete Carroll Gives His Thoughts

Following the 24-10 loss, the Raiders made the ultimate decision to fire Kelly. In a media session today, Carroll gave his thoughts. He said the following:

“I gave Chip a lot of leeway because he’s got an extraordinary background in history. He had such a phenomenal season coming out of Ohio State last year that we wanted to give him his due and all that. But as we continued to grow and come together, we just couldn’t get there. I wish him the very best, and like him, and we got along great and all that, but we had to make a difficult call.”

Carroll is correct; the team just hasn’t reached its potential on the offensive end. According to PFSN’s Offensive Impact metrics, the Raiders rank 30th in the league offensively with a letter grade of F and an impact score of 59.5.

The team ranks 30th in yards per play, 30th in points per drive, 26th in turnover percentage, 29th in sack percentage, and 27th in turnovers. Additionally, the team only averages 15 points per game, 189.5 passing yards, 79.5 rushing yards, 17 touchdowns, 4.6 yards per play, and 1.5 turnovers per game.

The highlight of the 2025 NFL Draft for the Raiders was drafting running back Ashton Jeanty with the sixth overall pick of the draft. In 11 games this season, he’s rushed 166 times for 604 yards and four touchdowns. He’s also caught 37 passes for 221 yards and four touchdowns. Despite that, he ranks 29th in PFSN’s Running Back Impact rankings.

Additionally, the team acquired Geno Smith this offseason from the Seattle Seahawks. He’s been less than spectacular to say the least, completing 66.6% of his passes for 2,367 yards and 13 touchdowns to 13 interceptions.

Other than that, Brock Bowers is the best receiving threat on the team. Despite missing some time this season due to injury, Bowers has caught 45 passes for 510 yards and three touchdowns in eight games.

The team has some offensive weapons to succeed, but they’ll need to hire a new offensive coordinator who can help the team reach its potential.
