Maxx Crosby’s future with the Las Vegas Raiders appears to be locked in at least for now after a dramatic trade failure that nearly saw him shipped out of town. A failed physical reportedly derailed the potential trade to the Baltimore Ravens, bringing Crosby back into the fold in Las Vegas.
While the situation seems settled for now, uncertainty still lingers in a league where nothing is guaranteed, especially with the veteran stars. That reality was underscored by a former Raiders executive who knows exactly how unpredictable these situations can be.
Mike Mayock Urges Maxx Crosby to Stay Ready Amid Uncertain Future
During a recent appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” former Raiders GM Mike Mayock offered insight into Crosby’s situation and the advice he gave to the star pass rusher after the failed trade.
“My best guess is that Maxx [Crosby] is sticking around,” Mayock said. “One of the things I mentioned to him afterward was just… work your a** off like you always have. Be who you are. Be all in on the Raiders, but be prepared for anything because you can’t control it, and you’ve got to be ready to move no matter what.”
Mayock’s comments reflect the ruthless nature of NFL roster building, especially for elite talents like superstar Crosby, who often find themselves at the center of trade speculation.
Mayock added further context on why Crosby might feel optimistic about staying put, pointing to the Raiders’ offseason moves as a reason for renewed belief in the locker room.
“I’m guessing he’s all in on the Raiders right now,” Mayock added. “And that’s especially with the infrastructure they’ve put in place this offseason… I think with Kirk Cousins signing, it gives them some hope that they can win some football games as a bridge with [Fernando] Mendoza. They’ve done a lot of really good things this offseason, and I think, I’m guessing Maxx is pretty excited about it.”
Despite the earlier trade drama, Crosby himself has publicly reaffirmed his commitment to the organization, suggesting that any doubts about his mindset may have been overstated.
“I’m here, I’m meant to be a Raider,” Crosby said, via ESPN. “I’m in this s*** for life until that changes, which I don’t foresee, but you never know in this damn league.”

From a team performance standpoint, Las Vegas still has a lot of work to do. The Raiders finished the 2025 season with a disappointing 3-14 record, highlighting broader issues across the roster.
According to PFSN Defense Impact Metrics, their defense fared better than their offense, at a 70.9 DEFi (21st), but still needs improvement. Overall, the unit received a C- grade and ranked 21st for the season, placing them well outside the league’s top defensive groups.
While Crosby remains one of the team’s most impactful players, those numbers underline why the franchise continues to explore ways to improve. For now, he appears locked in with the Raiders — but as Mayock warned, being prepared for anything remains the smartest approach.
