Tom Brady Explains Why Drake Maye’s Humility Is Fueling His MVP Rise

Ahead of the matchup, Patriots legend and G.O.A.T. Tom Brady appeared on Colin Cowherd’s show to talk football, with a special emphasis on Maye.

Brady has appeared several times on “Herd with Colin Cowherd” to discuss Maye and the Patriots. Here’s what Brady had to say:

“If you’re not humble, this game will humble you… Drake Maye has that humility and everything that comes out of his mouth is always about the team, always about praising his defense, praising his offensive line, and that’s how you connect with people. Great leaders are in service to other people. It’s not what can you do for me, it’s what can I do for you? How can I be the best to support your dreams, your goals, your vision… true leadership is about humility because true leadership is about service, and how do I show up every day to be the best I can be for my teammates?”

Brady’s high praise for the sophomore quarterback clearly shows that Maye is a great teammate and player. That’s probably why he was named a finalist for the NFL Most Valuable Player Award in just his second year in the league. In only one season, he went from one of the bottom quarterbacks in the league to one of, if not the best, this season.

In PFSN’s NFL Quarterback Impact Metric (QBi) 2025 regular season, Maye finished as the second-best quarterback in the league with an impact score of 91.1 and a letter grade of A-. He completed 72.0% of passes for 4394 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Maye also rushed for 450 yards and four touchdowns in 103 attempts.

Compared with 2024, Maye ranked 21st in PFSN’s QBi, with an impact score of 74.1 and a letter grade of C. Last season, he completed 66.6% of passes for 2276 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He also rushed 54 times for 421 yards and two touchdowns.

Maye and the Patriots will look to get back to the Super Bowl for the first time since the 2018 playoffs. Ironically, the former quarterback who praised Maye for his humility was the one who led the team to the Super Bowl win in 2018.
