Sure, Tom Brady may have spent 20 years with the New England Patriots and helped win six Super Bowls for the franchise over that span, but that doesn’t mean he has an allegiance in Sunday’s big game.
Patriots LB Robert Spillane Disgusted With Tom Brady’s Lack of Support
When the Patriots and Seattle Seahawks take the field in Super Bowl 60 this weekend, Brady, who has indicated that he isn’t taking sides, will simply be observing the game with no rooting interest. Naturally, some Patriots players haven’t taken too kindly to that.
Players have been doing their usual rounds in the media throughout the week leading up to the Super Bowl in Santa Clara. Even players from other teams who aren’t participating in the game are in town for the Pro Bowl, as the festivities have been integrated into the Super Bowl lead-up.
This is going to create an opportunity for some noteworthy soundbites and quotes, but none appeared more jarring than what Patriots linebacker Robert Spillane had to say about one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
You would think that Brady opting to side with the Patriots in Sunday’s clash would be a foregone conclusion, but that’s not the case. He isn’t siding with the Seahawks, either. Brady has said that he doesn’t have a dog in the fight.
“Personally, it makes me sick,” Spillane said of Brady’s comments on Thursday, according to Karen Guregian of MassLive Sports.

Spillane, a former undrafted free agent who has blossomed into a starting linebacker in the league, is on the verge of finishing his first season with the Patriots. He played in 13 games, registering two interceptions, five defended passes, a forced fumble, one sack, and 97 tackles.
Spillane played one season for the Tennessee Titans, four for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and two for the Las Vegas Raiders before venturing to the Patriots as a member of their star-studded free-agent class.
In addition to Spillane, the Patriots also signed wide receiver Stefon Diggs, defensive tackle Milton Williams, cornerback Carlton Davis III, and linebacker Harold Landry. Each player served in a pivotal role on their respective side of the ball, but the quartet of Williams, Davis, Landry, and Spillane contributed to a unit that ranked 12th in PFSN’s Defensive Impact metric.
After finishing the regular season with a 14-3 record and securing the second seed in the AFC, the Patriots conquered two of the top-three defenses in that ranking in their run to the Super Bowl. They beat the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round and the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game. The third team, the Seahawks, awaits on Sunday.
