The Green Bay Packers can’t seem to catch a break. They already lost star tight end Tucker Kraft last month, but Week 16 brought a new level of disaster. During a brutal loss to the Chicago Bears, head coach Matt LaFleur watched not one, but two quarterbacks go down with injuries.
The same thing happened in Week 17 against the Baltimore Ravens after Willis suffered another injury and Love was already ruled out.
A Look at Packers’ Options at QB
With neither Love nor Willis available, the Packers need to dig deep into their reserves. It means turning to practice squad quarterback Clayton Tune, who got elevated to the 53-man roster for the Week 17 game.
Saturday’s 22–16 loss to Chicago did more than just hurt the standings. This was a battle for control of the NFC North, and the Bears walked away with the win. But the final score became a secondary concern almost immediately.
The nightmare started in the second quarter when Jordan Love suffered a concussion after a heavy collision. Before exiting, Love completed seven of 13 passes for 77 yards. He has been electric during the 2025-26 campaign, currently sitting at No. 3 on PFSN’s QB Impact with a score of 87.8.
Once Love left the field, backup quarterback Malik Willis took the reins. He completed nine of 11 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown, keeping the offense moving even in a losing effort. LaFleur made sure to highlight that performance after the game.
But the praise came with a caveat. Willis hurt his shoulder during the game, leaving his status for Week 17 completely up in the air. LaFleur admitted this creates a massive headache for the coaching staff.
This uncertainty leaves Green Bay in a precarious spot. They sit at 9–5–1, good for second place in the division, but their path to the NFC North title has narrowed significantly. According to PFSN’s Football Playoff Meter, their chances of winning the division have plummeted to just 6.9%.
