The Green Bay Packers’ time atop the NFC North was short-lived. While the team remains in the playoff hunt, its chances of winning the division and even making the postseason have decreased. Let’s take a look at where the Packers stand after their Week 16 overtime loss to the Chicago Bears.
Can the Packers Still Make the Playoffs?
In Week 16, the Packers lost a heartbreaker in overtime against the Bears, 22-16, on Saturday night. According to PFSN’s NFL Playoff Predictor, after the overtime loss to the Bears, the Packers can no longer secure the NFC’s No. 1 seed. Their chances of making the playoffs are now at 83.60%, and their chances of winning the division are at just 6.80%.
Green Bay headed to Chicago for a rematch after defeating the Bears at home earlier this season, and they were without star pass rusher Micah Parsons (and then Jordan Love left the game early with a concussion). If the Packers had held on and won in Chicago, their playoff odds would have risen to 99%, with a 70.3% chance of winning the division.
The loss has dropped Green Bay to the seventh seed in the NFC playoff picture. If the playoffs started today, the Packers would travel to face the Bears in the first round.

The outcome of the Detroit Lions’ game against the Pittsburgh Steelers will also impact Green Bay’s postseason outlook. If Detroit loses, the Bears would clinch a spot.
If Detroit Wins AND Green Bay Loses:
- Playoff odds: 75.80%
- Division Odds: 7.1%
If Detroit Loses AND Green Bay Loses:
- Playoff odds: 95.3%
- Division Odds: 6.9%

Packers Remaining Schedule
- Week 17: Packers vs. Baltimore Ravens
- Week 18: Packers at Minnesota Vikings
Both matchups should be manageable for Green Bay’s offense, though containing Lamar Jackson and the Ravens will be a challenge without Micah Parsons. The Packers’ defense, however, ranks 11th in the league according to PFSN’s Defensive Impact metric, giving Jordan Love and the offense a solid chance to secure a home win.
On the offensive side, PFSN’s Offensive Impact metric gives Green Bay a B grade with an impact score of 83.2, ranking sixth in the NFL. While Love threw two interceptions in the loss to Denver, he has been largely efficient this season, totaling just six picks over 15 games.
A loss to the Bears has damaged the Packers’ division hopes, but as long as they win at least one of their final two games and the Lions don’t sweep their remaining matchups, Green Bay’s playoff berth is all but secured.
