The Green Bay Packers have a situation on their hands as it pertains to running back Josh Jacobs. Charges that were brought against the star complicate the team’s preseason preparations, and the team could be on the lookout for additional help to stabilize the backfield.
Alvin Kamara Will Be the Ideal Replacement for Josh Jacobs
The Packers ran into a roadblock after Jacobs was arrested last week on five different charges, namely strangulation and suffocation (a felony), along with misdemeanor charges of battery, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct, and intimidation of a victim.
While the running back vehemently denied all charges, his bond was set at $1,350, and he is back at the OTAs.
Jacobs is not only the leading back on the Packers, but he is also one of the best running backs in the NFL, with Green Bay relying heavily on his production on offense. As such, the front office finds itself in a tight situation to fill the massive void he’d leave behind if he were to miss time.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano acknowledged the situation when he discussed landing spots for New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara.
“New Orleans doled out big money to Travis Etienne Jr. in free agency and has a crowded RB room that also includes Kendre Miller, Audric Estime, and Ty Chandler,” Graziano wrote. “Kamara has one year left on his contract, which has been amended so many times it’s difficult to truly assess the size of the dead money burden New Orleans will take on whenever he’s gone.”
The Saints’ backfield situation opens up the possibility for the five-time Pro Bowler to find a new home for 2026. The running back will be 31 when the new season kicks off, and he’d like to finish his career on a high note with a strong team.
Enter — the Packers.
“It’s hard to see a team offering too much for Kamara at this point in his career,” Graziano added. “But if he lands in the right kind of backfield and the right kind of role, he could have a chance to go out with a bang. Maybe a place such as Cincinnati or Green Bay has a way to use him to help the offense.”

Kamara is a proven, versatile threat with a boatload of experience, both in the regular season and the playoffs. However, he posted a 46.0 impact score last season on PFSN’s RB Impact Metric, the worst mark of his career and a steep decline from the 79.4 he registered in 2024.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is an offensive genius, and among the rare few who could still extract a lot of value from Kamara as the back enters his final years in the NFL.
