Oronde Gadsden II Injury Update: What’s the Latest on the Chargers TE, and Will He Play in Week 11?

Chargers rookie pass tight end Oronde Gadsden II was injured in the team's Week 10 game against the Steelers. What does it mean for Week 11?

In Week 10, the Los Angeles Chargers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers by a score of 25-10, upping their season record to 7-3 to put them in second place in the AFC West behind the Denver Broncos.

Justin Herbert has found his rhythm this year, with 2,610 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

However, in the Week 10 matchup against the Steelers, one of Herbert’s favorite targets was hurt. It wasn’t receivers Ladd McConkey or Keenan Allen, but rather, the rookie tight end from Syracuse University, Oronde Gadsden II.

What Happened to Oronde Gadsen II, and Will He Play Week 11?

Gadsden finished the matchup with only three receptions for 13 yards. After going back to the medical tent to be checked out, NFL insider Adam Schefter posted the following:

“Oronde Gadsden has a knee injury and the team says he’s questionable to return tonight.”

Despite the injury to Gadsden, the Chargers were able to pull out a victory in a game where Herbert threw for 220 passing yards and one touchdown.

However, the star of the game was the defensive unit, which ranks No. 7 in the league in PFSN’s Defensive Impact rankings. The Chargers picked off Aaron Rodgers two times and limited him to 16 completions for 161 yards and a touchdown.

Today, Schefter gave us more information on the severity of Gadsden’s injury in a post, which said:

“Chargers TE Oronde Gadsden’s MRI today revealed a quad bruise that now will have him, per a source, ‘day to day.'”

Despite leaving the game early with a bone bruise, it sounds like Gadsden avoided serious injury. A bone bruise could limit him at practice this week, but he should have a good chance of playing in the team’s Week 11 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

This season, the rookie tight end has 35 receptions for 466 yards and two touchdowns. In PFSN’s Tight End Impact rankings, Gadsden is currently slotted at No. 8. As a rookie, Gadsden is already ranked above veteran tight ends like George Kittle, Dallas Goedert, and David Njoku.

If Gadsden can’t play this week, the Chargers will rely on second-string tight end Tucker Fisk, followed by Tyler Conklin and Will Dissly. However, with the injury being described as “day to day,” it sounds like Gadsden has a fighting chance to suit up in Week 11.
