Odell Beckham Jr. has spent the past year on the fringes of the NFL conversation. However, in a recent interview with Complex, Beckham opened up about his current mindset, physical health, and outlook on the next chapter of his career. He discussed his time away from the game, the emotional toll of injuries, and his changing perspective on fame and football.
Despite the online chatter, Beckham emphasized that retirement is not on the table. He expressed a desire to contribute in a more focused, team-oriented role rather than chase individual accolades.
“Retiring is not happening,” Beckham said in the interview. “I just came from the gym. This is the first time in a long time I can pop up out of bed … or take off running if I had to. I’m good. I know I can play in the league right now.”
Beckham, 32, last played for the Miami Dolphins in 2024, where he recorded nine catches for 55 yards over nine games. Before that short stint, he posted 565 receiving yards and three touchdowns with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023. While his production has declined from his peak, Beckham says he is now willing to contribute in a more limited capacity. He just wants another opportunity to get on the field.
“I’m not looking to be someone’s No. 1 wide receiver and get 15 targets,” he said. “I just want to play ball on a good team where I have a role, where I get five, six, seven chances to catch the ball.”
These comments have reignited speculation about a possible reunion with the New York Giants, the team that drafted him No. 12 overall in 2014. Beckham spent five seasons in New York and became one of the league’s most recognizable personalities, earning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and three Pro Bowl selections during his time there.
