Nick Chubb Bids Emotional Farewell to Browns’ Facility After 7 Seasons With AFC North Franchise

Nick Chubb said goodbye to the Cleveland Browns facility for the final time as he now shifts his focus to the Houston Texans.

Brad Stainbrook, a Cleveland Browns reporter, posted a video of Nick Chubb’s final time leaving the Browns’ facility. Chubb was clearly emotional in the video, as he spoke about his time in Cleveland.

Selected at No. 35 back in 2018, Chubb spent his first seven seasons in Cleveland before he was signed by the Houston Texans on a one-year, $5 million deal this offseason. With Cleveland behind him, Chubb has no choice but to look to the future.

An Emotional Nick Chubb Opens Up About His Time in Cleveland

After not agreeing on a new deal, Chubb looked elsewhere as his time in Cleveland came to an end. Chubb began his NFL career in the city when he was just 22 years old, something he spoke about in the video. Now, at 29, Chubb finds himself moving to the AFC South. Unfortunately, the AFC South and North don’t play each other this season, so he won’t get a chance to face his former team.

“Could be my last time leaving here,” Chubb said at the beginning of the video. “I got here when I was 22, I grew up here. The biggest thing for me is the relationships I’ve made here in Cleveland. You know, for seven years, I got super close to everyone, and finally opened up to them, and now I have to start all over.”

He continued, “New city, new people, new everything. Everyone embraced me, the city, the fans, the team. I learned so much here, I pretty much became a man here. I’m just grateful. Now, I’m looking forward to the next level and the next jump.”

The next jump will see Chubb join Joe Mixon in the backfield. Mixon will be entering his second season in Houston after finishing 2024 with 1,016 rushing yards. It marks back-to-back 1,000+ yard rushing seasons for the 28-year-old who ran for a career high 1,205 yards in 2021.

Mixon and Chubb find themselves in similar situations, as they both spent their first seven seasons with the same organization; Mixon’s was with the Cincinnati Bengals. Mixon had no problem fitting in immediately with the Texans, a team that lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round. Chubb’s time in Cleveland may be over, but he’s heading to a team that has made back-to-back playoff appearances. Shockingly, Chubb has played in just two playoff games.

The Browns made the postseason in 2023, but Chubb was limited to just two games that season. His lone playoff action came in 2020, as he racked up 145 yards in a pair of games. The Georgia graduate has played in just 10 games over the last two seasons as he looks to remain healthy with the Texans.
