Nick Chubb may be wearing a new jersey next season, but his heart will always carry a piece of Cleveland with it.
After seven seasons with the Cleveland Browns, the veteran running back signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal (up to $5 million) with the Houston Texans this offseason. Chubb marked the transition with an emotional farewell post on Instagram and it didn’t take long for Browns star Myles Garrett to respond.
Myles Garrett’s Reaction to Nick Chubb’s Farewell
Chubb’s message, which poured with gratitude and humility, struck a chord across the league, but no response hit harder than Garrett’s.

“A legend and our brother. Thank you🙏🏾,” Garrett commented under Chubb’s post.

Garrett later admitted that he personally pushed for Cleveland to re-sign the four-time Pro Bowler, calling the team’s decision not to retain him “an emotional blow.”
“I love Nick. I think a lot of the guys in this locker room still feel the same way,” Garrett said. “It crushes to see him get injured, had to battle through, and then it happened again. We want the very best for him.”
Even after injuries derailed his last two seasons, Chubb’s work ethic, quiet leadership, and sheer production left an imprint on Cleveland’s culture. Garrett knows just how much that mattered.
Chubb’s Emotional Goodbye to Cleveland
Drafted No. 35 overall in 2018, Chubb entered a franchise that had just gone 0-16. What followed was a cultural shift.
Chubb rushed for 6,843 yards and 31 touchdowns across 85 games in Cleveland, helping the Browns reach the postseason twice, including their first playoff win in over 25 years. Even in games he couldn’t finish, his presence loomed large.
“Seven years. That’s more than just time, it’s where I grew roots, found a home, and felt a love like nowhere else,” Chubb wrote in his farewell letter. “To my teammates, only we know how hard we fought every day and night. I came here to play football, but I’m leaving with so much more, memories that’ll last a lifetime.”
He closed his letter with one more message to the city that embraced him.
“This isn’t goodbye to what we built; it’s a thank you. Cleveland, you’ll always have a piece of my heart. Until we meet again,” Chubb concluded.
As Chubb joins a new-look Texans offense featuring Joe Mixon, the Browns will turn to a new page.
Cleveland will lean on Jerome Ford, entering Year 4, alongside rookies Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson to anchor their backfield. It’s a gamble with high upside, but there’s no replacing what Chubb meant to the franchise.
