Canada has earned a direct ticket to the quarterfinals, but its opponent will not be known until the qualifying round wraps up. That uncertainty sets the stage for Wednesday morning in Milan.
Which Opponent Awaits Team Canada in the 2026 Winter Olympics Quarterfinal Game?
Canada will face the winner of Czechia versus Denmark in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 10:40 a.m. ET at Santagiulia Arena. The game will air on Peacock, USA, CBC, and CBC Gem. Czechia and Denmark meet on Tuesday in the qualifying round, with the winner advancing to challenge the top seed.
Canada enters the knockout stage after a dominant preliminary run in Group A. The team opened with a 5-0 shutout over Czechia, powered by steady goaltending from Jordan Binnington and a three-assist night from Connor McDavid. Macklin Celebrini scored in his Olympic debut, while Nathan MacKinnon also had a goal.
The second game ended 5-1 against Switzerland. McDavid scored his first Olympic goal, and Sidney Crosby added to the attack with a goal in the third period. Logan Thompson handled the crease with 24 saves, continuing Canada’s strong play in net.
Canada closed group play with a 10-2 win over France. Crosby recorded a goal and two assists to become Canada’s all-time Olympic scoring leader in the NHL era. Celebrini scored twice, and McDavid piled up three more points as nine different players found the net.
Through three games, Canada outscored opponents 20-3. McDavid (9 points), Crosby (6 points), and Celebrini (6 points) sit among the tournament’s scoring leaders. In goal, Thompson owns a .960 save percentage, while Binnington sits at .950.

If Czechia wins, they have already seen Canada’s firepower up close in the opener and were left scoreless. Denmark has taken a different path, grinding through group play to stay alive. In group C, they have lost 3-1 to Germany, 6-3 to the United States, and secured a 4-2 win over Latvia. So, both teams understand the challenge that awaits them if they advance.
The men’s tournament now shifts fully into single elimination. Germany meets France, Switzerland faces Italy, and Sweden plays Latvia in the other qualifiers on Tuesday. Slovakia, the United States, Finland, and Canada await the four winners.
For now, Team Canada has earned the bye, but nothing beyond Wednesday is guaranteed.
