Team Canada’s plans of utter domination at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics came to light in their 10-2 victory over France. Sidney Crosby and company trounced France to secure a quarterfinal berth at the Olympics. To add to the good news, fans at home who have missed the presence of Brad Marchand on the Olympic ice may not have to endure it much longer.
Head coach Jon Cooper has come forward with an optimistic update about the winger’s return to the lineup.
Brad Marchand All Set To Join Team Canada Teammates for Quarterfinals
NHL players have gotten the opportunity to represent their countries on arguably the biggest international stage for the first time in more than a decade, and it is clear that Team Canada is hellbent on seizing the opportunity to establish itself as the most formidable force to be reckoned with. Crosby is aggressively pursuing his third Olympic gold medal, and with one of the finest teams at his disposal, there is no stopping him.
19-year-old Macklin Celebrini has made history by becoming the first NHL player to score on a penalty shot in the Olympics. Team Canada’s brutal show of might in their latest appearance against France leaves little room for fans to want more, but Marchand’s absence pricks.
The veteran is known for his notoriety in the NHL, and whether he can channel that spirit in Milan remains to be seen. Luckily for the fans, he is expected to return soon.
Marchand is not expected to be a spectator from the sidelines for much longer. As per Cooper, after missing the last two games, the veteran will be back on the ice for the quarterfinals. “After being scratched the last two games for Team Canada, head coach Jon Cooper says Brad Marchand will be in the lineup for the quarterfinals,” TSN Sports shared on X.
Marchand will join his teammates just when Team Canada prepares to navigate the most challenging terrain of the Olympics. The veteran made his last appearance in the team’s maiden match against Czechia, which the Maple Leafs won 5-0. The winger had one assist, two shots on goal, and a plus-one mark, spending 9:29 of ice time against Czechia.
Fortunately, Marchand was captured skating during a practice session with his teammates: an indication that things are indeed progressing as you would want them to for him.
Moreover, with a quarterfinal berth secured, Team Canada has sufficient time to get some practice in till their next match. Marchand has the opportunity to rest, recover, and make up for all the time and action he has missed.
