The Ottawa Senators are still in the Eastern Conference playoff mix as the regular season enters its final stretch. They have secured 8 wins in their last 11 games and are within reach of a Wild Card spot.
Brady Tkachuk remains one of the players most closely tied to the team’s direction during this period. At the same time, his future in Ottawa has drawn attention.
Pierre LeBrun Outlines Possible Timeline for Brady Tkachuk’s Future
The Ottawa Senators hold a 31–22–9 record with 71 points, placing them 6th in the Atlantic Division. The team trails the Boston Bruins by five points for the final wild-card position in the Eastern Conference. Ottawa has built some momentum lately, winning three of its last four games and collecting points in six straight.
Tkachuk continues to play an important role for the team during this stretch. The left winger and captain has been part of the Senators organization since the team selected him with the 4th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft.
Tkachuk is currently under a seven-year contract with an average annual value of about $8.21 million. He has two more seasons after the current one.
Despite the long-term contract, discussions about his future have surfaced at different points. NHL insider Pierre LeBrun addressed the situation in a recent column for The Athletic. He explained that much of the speculation over the past two years has not been based on real developments.
“There has been speculation about Brady Tkachuk’s future with the Ottawa Senators for the better part of two years now, and all of it has been unwarranted,” LeBrun wrote.
LeBrun added that the timeline for any meaningful discussion could come closer to the end of the current contract. “I think the more realistic time frame is the summer of ’27, when the Senators captain will be one year out from the expiry of his contract,” he wrote.
The insider also noted that outside speculation sometimes links Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers, where his brother, Matthew Tkachuk, plays. “I would bet that Brady’s brother, Matthew, is in his ear about coming to play with him in Florida,” LeBrun said, while also stating that Ottawa believes it can keep its captain for the long term.
Tkachuk has recorded 42 points in 42 games with 16 goals and 26 assists in the 2025–26 season. He has also added 110 hits and 162 shots on goal, maintaining his role as one of Ottawa’s most active players.

Tkachuk also represented the United States at the 2026 Winter Olympics earlier this year. He recorded 3 goals and 2 assists in six games as Team USA defeated Canada 2–1 in overtime to win the gold medal.
That result created a different reaction when he returned to Ottawa. Speaking about it on Feb. 26, Tkachuk acknowledged the response from some Canadian fans.
“They’re not the happiest with me right now,” he said. “It’s a funny feeling when you feel their support every day, and then, within two weeks, you’re Public Enemy No. 1.”
Even with that reaction, Tkachuk said his attention remains on the NHL season. For now, Ottawa continues its effort to move into a playoff position while its captain remains essential to the organization.
