‘Is This Soft or Hard Tampering?’ – NHL World Accuses Matthew Tkachuk of Trying To Manufacture Brady Tkachuk’s Exit

Matthew Tkachuk’s podcast comment fuels NHL debate as top voices question if he hinted at Brady Tkachuk leaving the Senators.

The Tkachuk brothers helped Team USA win gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics, but now NHL hockey is back into the limelight. A podcast comment from Matthew and Brady Tkachuk sparked fresh debate about Brady’s future in Ottawa.

With trade rumors already in circulation, everyone is paying close attention to every word before the March 6 trade deadline.

Ottawa Senators Captain Brady Tkachuk at the Center of Trade Debate After Matthew’s Comment

Brady Tkachuk, captain of the Ottawa Senators, recently appeared on Pardon My Take and discussed the media attention he receives in Canada compared to the United States.

During the episode, Brady said, “Yeah, [Matthew] is on a 4-day bender & I’m just sitting there under the microscope.” He was pointing to the intense coverage he faces while playing in a Canadian market.

Matthew Tkachuk, who serves as an alternate captain for the Florida Panthers, responded with a comment that drew attention. He said, “Hey Brady, we don’t get asked these questions out in Florida.”

Brady remains under contract through the 2027-28 season with an $8.2 million cap hit, and general manager Steve Staios has continued to build the roster around him. Despite that, speculation has grown as the March 6 trade deadline approaches and the Senators push for a playoff spot.

After the podcast clip circulated, several media members shared their views on X. NHL analyst Zack Phillips tweeted, “Is this soft or hard tampering?” His question highlighted how even casual comments can spark discussion when they involve a team captain under contract.

NHL reporter Jack Richardson also reacted by posting a GIF with a mute “F**k reaction.” His post showed how the situation was unfolding and how quickly the conversation moved toward trade talk.

Fan accounts added their own opinions. SENS TALK tweeted, “Soft tampering at its finest. I’ve seen enough. Take another first round pick from the #Sens.” SensCentral followed with, “This should, but won’t, cost the Panthers a 1st round draft pick.” These reactions showed how sensitive the topic remains among Ottawa supporters.

All of this comes after Brady and Matthew played key roles in Team USA’s gold medal win in Milan-Cortina, where they defeated Canada in the final. Earlier in January, Brady also reached the 200-goal mark in a win over the New York Rangers and has continued to produce at close to a point-per-game pace this season.

For now, insiders such as Elliotte Friedman have said there is “zero” chance of a trade. Still, the reaction to Matthew’s comment shows how a simple exchange can turn into a larger NHL discussion about a franchise player’s future.
