With the three-year extension that defensive tackle Jordan Davis and the Philadelphia Eagles agreed to on Saturday, the 26-year-old is locked in as a stabilizing presence for their defensive front for years to come.
The deal marks a showing of long-term commitment from the Eagles, but Davis’ running mate, Jalen Carter, could be on the move as a result.
Jalen Carter Could Be Major Trade Piece for Eagles
The new league year begins on Wednesday, March 11, and teams around the league are going to utilize every possible resource and venture down every avenue to improve their rosters before free agency begins.
Like Davis, Carter is a former Georgia Bulldog whom the Eagles selected with a top-15 pick in back-to-back years.
Both players have helped bolster a tenacious pass rush for a Super Bowl-winning defense, but as is the case in this league, you simply can’t pay everyone. Ever since he entered the league in 2023, Carter has been a game wrecker. This includes the past season, when Carter had a very good year, grading out at an A- according to PFSN’s DT Impact metric.
As great as Carter is, there are some reasons why the Eagles could move on from him. One is off the field, as Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was spat on in week 1 of this season. This happened early in the game, and Carter was ejected.
Coming out of college, there were some character concerns for Davis, and some of those unfortunately came true in Philly. So, if Philly is trying to establish a better culture and get rid of drama, trading Carter could help.
Micah Parsons’ brother, Terrence, has seen firsthand the kind of havoc Carter can create in the trenches. Prior to being traded to Green Bay last summer, Parsons spent four years with the Dallas Cowboys and would face the Eagles twice a year in the NFC East.

An extension was in the cards for Davis for quite some time, with many speculating on the potential figure for a new deal.
John McMullen, who covers the Eagles for SINow, was stunned to learn that he wasn’t anywhere close to the three-year, $78 million number.

Since playing in 13 games as a rookie in 2022, Davis has yet to miss a single contest. He’s played in all 51 regular-season games since 2023, including all six playoff games in that span.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz relayed some of Davis’ numbers from this past season, highlighting career-highs in tackles, sacks, tackles for a loss, and snaps.

Former NFL player Emmanuel Acho also shared his thoughts in a video posted to his X account.
“If you’re familiar with the Eagles at all, Jordan Davis, after two years, people considered him a bust because he couldn’t play on all three downs,” Acho said.

The Eagles have almost routinely ranked among the NFL’s upper echelon defenses in recent years. This past season, with Davis and Carter at the forefront of their defensive line, the Eagles finished No. 7 in PFSN’s Defense Impact metric.
