The Minnesota Vikings have an exciting quarterback battle going on between J.J. McCarthy, who is in his third year with the franchise, and Kyler Murray, who has played in the league for seven seasons.
Murray joined the Vikings in March 2026, and since then, the conversation about which player will secure the quarterback battle has been making waves.
Kyler Murray Is Reportedly Disliked by Vikings Players
Various fans and analysts sensed tension between Murray and McCarthy in the offseason, especially after the former Michigan star described their relationship as two guys sitting on different sides of the classroom.
According to Vikings writer Adam Patrick, the tension may have extended beyond the quarterbacks, potentially involving Kyler Murray and Justin Jefferson, among other Vikings players.
In a post made on X on Saturday, Patrick wrote that while he believes Murray is definitely the better quarterback talent-wise, the locker room vibes tell a different story.
He wrote, “Based on the early vibes and reports coming out of training camp, I don’t think the Vikings locker room really likes Murray, especially Justin Jefferson.”

“Man… it’s almost like when guys like Jefferson and Addison would come out and speak highly of McCarthy and remain supportive of him even when he was struggling and people said they were full of [expletive]. Maybe they weren’t actually full of [expletive].” The Daily Norseman, an account that covers the Vikings, shared.

“Hence why Arizona is paying to not have him. Just demeanor-wise, Murray feels entitled to be the QB1, even though he lost his job to Jacoby Brissett. I strongly dislike how Murray acts, doesn’t seem like a team player, and no one speaks highly of him, character-wise,” an account named The Real Millerz added.

Murray also raised some eyebrows when he complained about having to share reps with McCarthy, with former players like LeSean McCoy calling him “arrogant.”
In his final season with the Cardinals, Murray played only five games, throwing for 962 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions.
Murray didn’t play enough to get ranked on PFN’s QB Impact Metric, but McCarthy did, and he ranked 34th at his position with an impact score of 67.0.
