49ers’ Fred Warner Shares Enigmatic Post on Ankle Recovery

Fred Warner’s recovery hints at a possible late season return, raising quiet optimism as the 49ers wait for a clearer picture.

Fred Warner is possibly the most beloved player among San Francisco 49ers fans, the  Faithful, today. Sure, he shares that status alongside Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle. In recent years, he has become the team’s vocal leader and the bridge between the franchise and its fan base, and the injury he suffered against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was a major blow to the team’s season.

As he recovers from a fractured ankle, Warner has shared numerous updates about each stage of his recovery process. A recent post from the linebacker left fans curious and intrigued about the possibility of Warner returning soon.

Fred Warner’s Recovery Sparks Hope That All-Pro Linebacker Might Return This Season

The 49ers’ season has been a testament to resilience, as they have overcome injuries to key players, especially Fred Warner and Nick Bosa, who are the two best defenders on the roster and extremely difficult to replace. While both are essentially ruled out for the year, there is still a faint hope that Warner could return.

A recent Instagram post from the linebacker left fans intrigued. In a carousel of images, Warner shared a drawing of himself referencing the anime Dragon Ball, inside the same recovery tank used by the character Vegeta after being injured in battle. Alongside the illustration, he included a video of himself swimming and walking without assistance.

Warner’s desire to return this season is no secret, and even general manager John Lynch addressed the possibility a few days ago, giving his view on the real odds of a comeback. While he indicated it is highly unlikely, he acknowledged that Warner will do everything in his power to make it happen.

“We’ll follow the orders of the doctors. They’ll control this, but Fred is going to push the limits, and he is doing everything possible. He lives in a hyperbaric chamber for two, three hours a day. He’s here all the time. He’s unbelievable, this guy. It’s what made him who he is,” Lynch added.

Despite a 9-4 record so far, the Niners’ defense is ranked at 26th with a D+ grade according to the PFSN’s impact metrics.

Warner’s mentality is one of the most admired traits inside the 49ers’ locker room. His steady progress could lead to a return, even if he is not fully healthy, for the playoffs, especially if the team makes a deep postseason run.

If that happens, it would be a boost and a major source of motivation for the entire roster.
