Going into the 2026 NFL Trade Deadline, one of the main conversations around the New Orleans Saints was the WR room. The team had two pass catchers that teams registered interest in, but New Orleans ended up trading one, sending Rashid Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks.
Making the Shaheed move made a lot of sense for the Saints, and it hinted at a potential contract extension with Chris Olave, but will it happen?
Olave Reveals Information About Contract Discussions
With Olave being by far the top WR on the Saints roster, a deal with the former first-round pick should be a priority for the team. With New Orleans being on their bye week, Olave joined the “Up & Adams Show” and dropped some intel on contract conversations with the Saints.

This is excellent news for the Saints and Olave, with both parties wanting the Star WR to stay in Louisiana. Olave is just coming off a fantastic performance against the Carolina Panthers, and this season, he is ranked 10th in receiving yards (664) per PFSN’s WR Impact Metric. A deal should be finalized, and if it is, here is what it could look like.
The Potential Contract Extension
A perfect comparison to what Olave may get with this extension is what the New York Jets gave WR Garrett Wilson. In the 2022 NFL Draft, Wilson was selected one pick before the Saints got Olave. Wilson’s contract ultimately ended up being a 4-year, $130 million deal, and this is what Olave should be asking for, but that might not happen.
When discussing contract talks involving Olave, the injury history must be taken into account. Remarkably, he has avoided a head injury so far this season, but the past issues should give the Saints pause for concern. Reaching the $32.5 million annual salary that Wilson was awarded may not be feasible.
With all of this in mind, here is a mock contract extension for the Saints and Olave: 4-year, $112 million.
