The Minnesota Vikings’ season may have reached its tipping point. With both NFC North rivals battling for playoff positioning, Sunday’s matchup between the Vikings and Chicago Bears carries more postseason weight than any other game in Week 11.
Minnesota’s Playoff Hopes Could Rise to 32% With Win, Plunge to 10% With Loss
PFSN’s NFL Playoff Predictor shows how fragile Minnesota’s postseason path has become. Entering the week, the Vikings hold a 22.4% chance to make the playoffs. A win would push that number to 32%, but a loss would drop it to just 10.7%. It is the largest single-game swing in the NFL this week.
For Chicago, the stakes are just as high. The Bears enter Week 11 at 6-3 and currently occupy the No. 6 seed in the NFC playoff standings. A win would boost their postseason odds to 67.3%, giving them firm control over their playoff destiny. A loss would knock them back to 39.6%, putting them right in the middle of a crowded NFC playoff race.
That race is as tight as it has been in years. Seven NFC teams sit between 4-5 and 6-3. Minnesota, at 4-5, is one game behind the final playoff spot but trails Green Bay (5-3-1) and San Francisco (6-4) in tiebreakers. The Bears are part of a cluster that includes Detroit, Tampa Bay, and Los Angeles, all fighting for postseason position as the playoff picture begins to take shape.
For the Vikings, this is a defining moment for second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy. His performance in the 27-19 loss to Baltimore drew heavy scrutiny after several missed throws and two costly interceptions. The offense has shown flashes of potential, but turnovers and penalties have erased scoring chances.
The Vikings offense ranks 27th in PFSN’s OFFi. A clean game from McCarthy could steady Minnesota’s offense and help restore confidence in head coach Kevin O’Connell’s system.

Minnesota’s margin for error is shrinking. The Vikings’ division odds, currently 6.3%, could rise to 9.9% with a win or sink to 2.1% with a loss. Their Super Bowl chances increase slightly to 1.1% if they win, but would nearly vanish if they lose.

Other games, such as Broncos vs. Chiefs or Falcons vs. Panthers, carry playoff implications, but none have a greater impact on two NFC teams with more at stake than Vikings vs. Bears. For Minnesota, and for McCarthy, this is the kind of game that can define an entire season.
