What Went Right and Wrong in Week 11 As Broncos Take Control of AFC West

The Denver Broncos downed the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 11, 22-19. In fact, one of the keys to the game for the Broncos was holding the Chiefs to less than 21 points. A Broncos win has put the Chiefs’ odds to win the division at just 3%. And the Chiefs’ playoff odds now sit at 46.4%. Broncos Country, let’s ride. That said, let’s look at what went right and wrong for the Broncos in Week 11.

    What Went Right for Broncos

The Broncos’ passing game went right for the team in Week 11. Coming into the game, the Chiefs allowed the sixth-fewest passing yards per game. So, this is a great development for quarterback Bo Nix, No. 17 in PFSN’s QB Impact Score, and Co. Nix’s passing numbers are below.

Nix: 24-of-37 for 295 yards, eight yards per attempt, and a 89.4 passer rating.

Running back Jaleel McLaughlin, meanwhile, scored the Broncos’ offense’s only touchdown on a four-yard run. Other than that, it was all Nix. He completed a 21-yard pass to wide receiver Courtland Sutton on a third down to get the festivities started.

Later in the game, Nix found wide receiver Troy Franklin for 35 yards on a third and eight, then Sutton again for 13 yards on back-to-back plays. Rookie running back RJ Harvey, meanwhile, caught an 11-yard pass on third and two as well.

Tied 13-13 in the fourth quarter, Nix didn’t flinch. He connected with rookie wide receiver Pat Bryant for 48 yards to flip the field position. On the Chiefs’ 32-yard line, Nix found tight end Evan Engram a play later for nine yards as well.

And tied 19-19 late in the fourth quarter, Nix found Sutton for 20 yards on third and 15 to convert a first down. Later in the same drive, Nix connected with Franklin on a 32-yard pass. For reference, that’s eight completions of at least nine yards for Nix. The touchdowns will come.

    What Went Wrong for Broncos

The Broncos’ discipline went wrong for the team in Week 11. Denver had 10 penalties for 147 yards. That’s not going to work most weeks, but the Broncos will take the win in Week 11. The Broncos, meanwhile, have a bye in Week 12, then play the Washington Commanders in Week 13. The Broncos hope Pat Surtain II is back then.
