The Atlanta Falcons lost 24-23 in a thrilling, close game against the New England Patriots in Foxborough on Sunday, dropping their record to 3-5 while the Patriots improved to 7-2 and extended their winning streak to five games.
Falcons vs Patriots Game Analysis
Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. went 22-for-37 for 222 passing yards and three touchdowns. Penix Jr. had a costly intentional grounding penalty that stalled one drive. Wide receiver Drake London had a standout performance, catching nine passes for 119 yards and three touchdowns.
One of those scores was a one-handed touchdown in the end zone. Although the defender had tight coverage, London’s athleticism and poise won the matchup. London was a key factor in the offense lighting up the field. The run game struggled, with running back Bijan Robinson gaining 45 yards on 12 carries, while Tyler Allgeier had two carries for six yards. The Falcons relied heavily on passing the ball.
Defensively, the Falcons held their own until the second quarter, when the Patriots’ offense became more productive, scoring two touchdowns. Overall, the defense played solidly. Cornerback A.J. Terrell Jr. recorded six total tackles, and rookie edge rusher Jalon Walker showed flashes of potential with four total tackles. Safety Jessie Bates III returned to the field and contributed with an interception.
Falcons kicker John Parker Romo made all PATs and a 38-yard field goal in the fourth quarter but missed an extra point when Drake London made a spectacular catch to bring the score to 23-24. The Falcons were unable to tie the game and ultimately lost.
