The Arizona Cardinals gave up five sacks against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10, and two ended up in fumbles that turned into scoop-and-score plays for Seattle. The Seahawks’ defense had 23 pressures on Cardinals’ quarterback Jacoby Brissett, which was the ninth-most in a single game this season.
Arizona’s offensive line has struggled all year long, but offensive coordinator Drew Petzing denies the notion that the Cardinals’ offensive line has regressed since 2024.
Why Does Drew Petzing Still Believe In the Cardinals OL?
The Cardinals’ offensive line has looked terrible, both to the eye test and on the stat sheet. However, Petzing still believes in Arizona’s group, and they’re effort is the biggest reason why.
When directly asked why the offensive line has regressed in 2025, Petzing denied the notion and backed up his players.
“I wouldn’t say that. I think they’re playing hard. I think we’ve played some really good fronts. I think the communication has been good,” Petzing said. “Like, at times, you’re losing one-on-ones in critical situations, which is hurting us, and certainly, we need to evaluate how and why that’s happening and try to clean that up.
“But, I do, I think those guys play extremely hard. I think they play well together. I think they do everything they can to win games.”
While it’s admirable that he has his players’ backs, there’s also the side of not seeing the stats that back up the Cardinals’ offensive line’s poor performance this year.
Petzing can say they play hard, and do everything they can to win, but to say they play well together doesn’t really make sense.
Arizona’s offensive line ranks No. 27 in the NFL, according to PFSN’s Team OL Impact. The Cardinals’ offensive line gives up the fifth-most percentage of sacks allowed and the sixth-most actual sacks allowed, and an overall D grade with a 64.4 score.
This is the worst team offensive line performance in Arizona since at least 2019, according to PFSN’s Team OL Impact. The Cardinals were ranked No. 2 in the NFL in 2024 with an A- grade, and that dropped to a C+ grade in 2023, but the Cardinals were still in the Top 10.
It’s been a dramatic drop-off in 2025, and there aren’t a lot of positives you can say about it.
The Cardinals’ highest-rated offensive lineman is center Hjalte Froholdt, who ranked No. 71 in the NFL among all offensive linemen, according to PFSN’s OL Impact.
Offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. is next with a 76.3 grade, but ranked No. 84 in the NFL.
The other four Cardinals offensive linemen with enough stats to track have all earned D grades or worse. In fact, Arizona’s only offensive lineman to improve from last year to 2025 is Johnson. Everyone else has declined in performance, according to PFSN’s OL Impact.
There have been numerous issues that have contributed to the Cardinals’ current situation in 2025, but the offensive line has been one of the most significant factors.
The decline is real based on every stat imaginable, and no matter who’s been at quarterback, they haven’t had much time in the pocket.
That was evident on Sunday against the Seahawks, and the upcoming schedule doesn’t get any easier in terms of opposing front fours, with the San Francisco 49ers in Week 11.
