Veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. re-signed with the New York Giants in June after eight years away from the team that selected him No. 12 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. On Friday, Giants coach John Harbaugh suggested that the wide receiver might make the Giants’ 53-man roster this season.
NFL fans on social media had mixed reactions to Harbaugh’s declaration about Beckham’s future in New York.
John Harbaugh’s Odell Beckham Comments Stun Fans
After Harbaugh’s revealed that Beckham did enough to make the roster, one fan was brutal in his assessment of the Giants’ wide receiver room.
“I think fans are too sentimental. Harbaugh could care less,” the fan wrote on X. “OBJ doesn’t play special teams. He is now competing against all teams’ cuts. If he makes it, the Giants’ WR group stinks. But that said, the GM is just the worst.”

One fan raised a big issue about Beckham and said, “If I’m Slayton or Mooney, I’m asking for a trade if OBJ makes the 53 because this fanbase is going to boo them every home game and (expletive) about them everyday until Odell is WR2 on the depth chart.”

Another user on X added, “‘Done enough’ just means he isn’t the worst option in the room. good luck convincing a team to cut a future star for a vet who can’t stay healthy.”
One fan concluded that Harbaugh’s comments suggested that the Giants were cutting Beckham: “This is kinda a bizarre statement, he isn’t saying he makes his roster. This feels like the Giants are cutting him.”

One fan complained that Harbaugh was sending mixed signals about the Beckham issue. The fan said, “You can see the way that John has been talking about him, he doesn’t want him on the team. I get it because when they brought Odell, I didn’t think he would look good at all. But he looks absolutely great and should be on this Giants team or another team with actual reps as well.”

The Giants’ wide receiver room has been depleted by Calvin Austin III’s season-ending ACL injury and Malik Nabers’ uncertain status. Last season, the Giants earned a PFN Offense Impact score of 74.6 (No. 18 in the league), and Harbaugh has sought to give quarterback Jaxson Dart pieces to work with.

In his NFL career, Beckham has earned three Pro Bowl nods and two second-team All-Pro selections. The wide receiver was also named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2014.
Beckham last played a full season in 2019 with the Cleveland Browns, which was also the last time he topped 1,000+ receiving yards. Beckham won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 after he was released by the Browns midway through the season.
The wide receiver tore his ACL a second time during Super Bowl LVI against the Cincinnati Bengals. He joined the Baltimore Ravens for the 2023 season and was released before joining the Miami Dolphins in 2024.
An unspecified injury marred Beckham’s sole season with the Dolphins in 2024. He tallied 55 yards on nine catches in nine games. The wide receiver was suspended for six games last year for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.
