‘Just Cut Him,’ ‘How Do You Get a 2-For-1 DWI?’ — NFL Fans React to Colts Star Keenan Allen’s Arrest in Indianapolis

NFL fans had more than a few things to say as Colts WR Keenan Allen was arrested in Indianapolis bright and early on Sunday morning.

Sunday was meant to be an eventful day for team news, but few would have seen news like this coming to the fore early in the day.

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with DWI and DWI endangering a person, per ESPN. While the news dropped bright and early on Sunday, it didn’t take all that long for NFL fans to take notice.

What NFL Fans Had to Say About Colts WR Keenan Allen’s Arrest

Fox59 reported that the 34-year-old Allen was arrested in downtown Indianapolis around 1 a.m, in the 100 block of S. Meridian Street.

The timing is notable because the Colts suited up for their preseason finale on Saturday against the Detroit Lions. Allen was on the field for that game, finishing with a solitary catch for 24 yards.

The Colts released a statement in the aftermath, saying, “We are aware of the incident involving Keenan Allen last night. We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”

As news of his arrest spread, fans understandably criticized the six-time Pro Bowler.

“Just cut him. Cut day is tomorrow, and you’re on potentially your last contract, and you get arrested the morning before cut day?” one fan remarked.

“Show some guts, Ballard. Cut him,” another demanded.

Reacting to the news that he was arrested on two DWI charges, one fan wrote, “2??!?! How you get a 2 for 1 DWI??”

One NFL fan took a softer tone, writing, “Hey bud, you could’ve called me. I would’ve picked you up for free.” Another added, “Casually ruined his career at 5 am 💔💔”

“Double DUI after a preseason game is a TOUGH way to wake up on a Sunday morning,” another fan remarked, noting the timing of it all.

Allen spent his first 11 seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, becoming somewhat of a fan favorite. He was then traded to the Chicago Bears two years ago, before making his way back to LA. He signed with Indianapolis in free agency earlier this month.

Last season on the Chargers, Allen suited up in all 17 games, tallying 777 receiving yards on 81 receptions, delivering four TDs. He got a PFN WR Impact Grade of 77, ranking #27 among qualifying receivers.

It remains to be seen what kind of action the league takes, but the former Pro Bowler is unlikely to escape unscathed. The arrest also throws his availability for Week 1 into doubt, though that will be the least of his problems.
